Guest toc
Right lads I have noticed that when I go over a bump with BOTH rear wheels eg. a speed bump, I get a horrible clank across the back of the car. Its driving me crackers. My shocks were replaced so it isn't them. To be honest I can feel every bump on the road and Im fed up of it. Any advice greatly appreciated. Ian W
Top mounts? I'd hazard a guess that if the shocks were replaced they simply put the old top mounts back on?
Guest toc
Might sound stupid but I'm not great with suspension. Are the top mounts hard to replace. I really do feel every bump on the road.
Ian W
Get someone to sit in the back and have a listen to try and ascertain if it's coming from the top mounts (i.e. right by their ears ) or lower down. Could be a number of things to be honest. Have the subframe bolts been tightened recently?
Guest toc
No, Iv had the car a year and only replaced the rear shocks, never tightened any bolts. Torque spanner do the job with every bolt i can find?
Ian W
Think you need to identify the subframe bolts and tighten them to the specific settings (though you'll need the car in the air to do this). That'd be the cheapest fix so I'd start there. After that I'd probably be looking at top mounts and bushes as possible culprits.

ellis
Rear subframe bolts? They can come loose and make a rattling noise.
Guest toc
thanks a lot. Does the car need to be in the air?
