Rob
My rear fog lights have caused me to fail the MOT, cos they don't work basically. Having ripped out the dash, there was a connector loose off the back of the (after market) switch, reconnection did not solve the problem, and it turns out that the 10A fuse for dash lights and the little ashtray light had blown. Following the wires from the rear fog switch, it (and the aftermarket front fogs) take their switchable 12V from the ashtray light wire (orange). When I replaced fuse, it blew upon insertion. So the question is, if I have reconnected the fog switch back to front, will that cause the fuse to blow? the fog switch has three connectors and a little red light. Terminator
Could be, fuse blowing on insertion is a short in the circuit , somewhere:(

Yes, if it's connected wrong, it'll blow the fuse. You should hopefully have markings on the switch indicating 12v or +, Earth or - and Acc or similar. Get your self a testlight or better, a multimeter and find out which is which. The wire going towards the foglights may be reading an earth signal through the bulb so it may be easier to remove the backpanel to see what colour wire goes to the foglight. - This wire connects to the acc. You dont actually need the earth connected to get the foglights working, this might help you to find out which are the switch wires. Once you have the switch working, put the earth back on and the switch should illuminate. - An illuminating fog light switch IS part of the MOT so make sure it gets reconnected. Hope that helps. Rob
I'm glad you said that, cos I very nearly put a simple black switch in. Anyway got it working again, it was a simple loose connector that got far more complicated by me blowing the fuse when re-connecting it. The switch just had 1,2 and 3 on it, which didn't help matters. Whats the difference between 12v and acc? is 12v "constant" direct from the battery and Acc is ignition 12v or what? Matt Harwood
12v would be the power supply - Usually taken from the sidelights, so that the foglights operate in conjunction with the external lighting system. Acc. is the 'accessory' that the switch is powering - In this case, the foglights. I agree, 1,2,3 is not helpfull at all
Digsy
Rob, is your car from JIC by any chance? I was amazed that they took the rear foglamp feed off the dash illumination, wired direct with no relay.

Rob
This looks like what has been done, but I have no record of my car being with JIC at all.
