Film Certifications

So I've just been to see Wolverine, and I enjoyed it.

I have a gripe though. I think film certification is all wrong these days. The film was a 12A so suitable for kids with parents. I know this is to get the film to a more 'mass' market but actually I think it made the film a bit lacking.

There were bits in it (I won't give any plot stuff away) that I think would have benefited from a bit more gore. A lot of the actual 'fight' type scenes were cut away when someone got shot/stabbed etc and there wasn't any blood in lots of it, even if someone died.

Am I wrong in thinking if there is any action/fight scenes they should seem real?

I know it's not going to win any oscars for great acting/scenery etc but it just annoys me that it would have been a more fuller film had they rated it differently.

That's all. :)

A group of Bi-Polar pseudo-sociologists who are as out of touch with reality as the Vatican and House of Lords. Over protective Monday to Friday and totally irresponsible at the weekends. Pandering to commercial pressure from the studios one day and sh*t*ing themselves over a nasty headline the next. How Zoolander was given a 12 certificate beggars belief.

I find myself only going to the cinema with my 8 year old these days, the time from release and Sky getting the films I want to see seems to have come down so much, I was lucky enough to see Hanna Montana today

Wow, was it good? Been trying to get my four year old to go and see it, but he just will not.. :(

Errr it was ok, longer than I would have liked to be honest, I did the usual and ate her popcorn and pick and mix which I was annoyed about after !

I dont mind going to see the Pixar stuff, she is a BIG Hanna fan at the moment though !

:D It's stupid it really is. I mean, if you're going to hint at violence make the certificate higher and actually show some. The infamous Straw Dogs rape scene was made to look worse than it was because of editing.

Maybe I'm just used to watching 'comic book' type films with more blood.

Very true, it should be made as an 18.

Its all about money, as already mentioned :(

Probably true. The more bums on seats the better considering how many people won't bother paying to see it all the while believing that it's their right to watch it for free.

It's a vicious cycle.

I think it's the other way around.. since Firman moved on from the the BBFC I think they're well below on the certification.

Films like Saw would never have been released 'back in the day'... a 15 these days is more like an 18 years ago.

Agreed though, around the PG/12A certification they do seem to unnecessarily dumb them down.... but if it stops the kids having nightmares whilst enjoying their superhero films then I have to say I'm sort of in agreement.

I agree, although the whole X-men series is really aimed at 8-14's+ so to bring an x men film out and class it as a 15 would of lost them millions. So yea it really boils down to money, still a good film though.

End of the day these films cost millions to make so need to make millions when they come out and to class a film as an 18 is really taking away a lot of potential money. Its a shame cos there are a few films that would of been far better with a little more gore and violence and changed to an 18 but that doesnt pay the bills i suppose.
