Japanese car tax

It's that time of the year again.:(

Mine is 51,000Yen, which at the current exchange rate is 350quid.

Just passed a guy in my office walking to the convenie with a sorry look on his face to pay his. Whopping 88,000 (600quid) for his Nissan Patrol.

Kobe cash cows over here.:(

As well as tax you have to pay for your parking space too which for me is about 100quid a month.

Then there's the shaken (MOT) which is every two years and costs about 600quid.

Insurance is just over a grand, but it doesn't change if you modify the car (providing it's still road legal) or it get points on your license. I told them I got 13 points and a 3 month ban and they'd didn't care :D

However tolls are a nightmare, I spent 30quid on them just driving to the girlfriends parents 60km away. Government recently introduced a flat rate of 7quid on weekends and holidays outside of Tokyo, but of course now the roads are *totally* congested :( You've got tolls to look forward to in the UK, I'm in no doubt it will happen sooner or later and then you can pay to sit in traffic.

The only good thing is petrol is quite reasonable at 84p a litre. Not that you can enjoy burning it when you're stuck in constant traffic crawling from traffic light to traffic light dodging cameras and police.

One reason I'm selling the car, just can't be bothered with the hassle anymore. Need to drive 2-3hrs out of the city to enjoy it.

God, I've just depressed myself. Well, at least car tax isn't 1400Euro !!

Irish road tax system is ridiculous. Then again our nct (shaken) is only 50 quid every 2 years and there isnt that many tolls, then again the roads here a joke to be honest about it

Its 365 every 3 months here or I think 1265 for the year. Most pay 3 months at a time for obvious reaasons.

Bloody hell. I'm avoiding post 2002 911's because they are £455 a year and I begrudge giving even that to the government. Sounds like everyone is being raped...!!:(

No they aren't. Cars registered between 1st March 2001 and 23rd March 2006 are in band K if they have >225g/km emissions. That's £215. Not sure where £455 comes from, even newer cars are only a max of £405 at the moment. Details are here:

Yes, that is at present. As of next year it will get a whole lot worse. It's £435 and not £455, apologies!!

Yeah but again it's only for cars registered after 2006 at the moment - cars before then will still be in band K for 2010. They haven't announced what they are doing for 2011 although it sounds like they may get rid of that exception. :(
