You should be able to do it fairly easily without that tool.

If you leave the clutch cover bolts slightly loose then fit the gearbox it will go on. Then go round and do the cover bolts up afterwards.

Hmm, interesting. So you think I'll be able to get to all the cover plate bolts through the gearbox inspection covers? That would save me some time sourcing this tool.

Yes you should be able to get to them no probs, just need someone to turn the engine over for you or it takes ages :)

Tried Lee's procedure but its very fiddely. I've bought that tool from the States at a crunch busting £6.72 delivered. If it turns out to be crap I'll persevere. Have plenty of jobs to do in the meantime. Thanks for ya help guys.

Shouldnt be too bad, line the clutch plates up by eye then do the cover bolts up so they hold the plates but not too tight so they cant move.

Then you should be able to slide the gearbox straight on, give it a wiggle and it will locate. Then go round and tighten the cover bolts up afterwards.

Trust me once you have done it once its a doddle
