Alarm / Immobiliser - general advice needed

Evening,

Looking some assistance with a couple of things guys. I got my new supra last week and wanting to make sure all the little important things are taken care of before i go onto anything cosmetic or otherwise.

Right i have a 1999 facelift auto. It has a odd-ish standard Toyota key when i say odd because i haven't seen a similar one before. It's an original genuine Toyota key but it has to buttons programmed into the facia. One for lock and the other for unlock.

Now i was wondering if the Supras had any standard form of alarm and immobilser on them? The reason i'm asking is one click of 'lock' button obviously locks the car but a second press of the button gives a very gentle and quick beep of the horn. Is this indicating that an alarm or immobiliser has been armed ?

Not wanting to take the risk of anything untoward with insurance which leads to point number two.

Have been pricing up installation for a Toad Ai606. Seems to get decent reviews and i had a toad system on an older car with no problems. Just wondering if anyone else had them and if they are recommended and/or any common compatibilty problems.

Was looking at Cliffords also but from experience i may get hung, drawn and quartered by my neighbours as the proximity sensor feature on them leaves a lot to be desired :eyebrows:

Why don't you get in the car and press the keyfob button a couple of times (it may take the alarm 30 seconds or so to arm) and then see if it's immobilised by trying to start it, also unlock and open the door from the inside to see if the alarm goes off.

I fitted the Toad ai606 to my car 4 years ago and it's been totally faultless.

Got the TOAD fitted today. Chap who runs his own self employed business called Empirical in Glasgow came out to my house on my days off today and had it set up within a couple of hours. Took time to explain everything to me and go through the various modes of operations and things to look out for; was very impressed and it looks a decent bit of kit too.
