If you start talking about a more realistic price of £15k and upwards for a lotus carlton and you are getting into Audi RS4 territory and similar BMW M5's. Just look at all the Supras owned by people on here that have more impressive specs than stock cars costing probably ten times as much. As far as I'm concerned the argument that any car isn't worth the money because a modified blah blah blah will be faster is completely irrelevant. Cars like the Lotus Carlton will be bought by people who specifically want that car and not by people who are only interested in power figures to brag about down the pub. It would have to be a pretty special driver to utilise the difference in suspension abilities, especially as come any straight the lotus (sorry vauxhall) would be watching a single turbo 600 bhp aristo romping off in the distance. E30 M3 UR Quattro Delta Integrale 964 911 etc etc All now cost well in excess of 10k for good low mileage examples, and all are far less powerful than Supras/Aristos with good setups. Doesn't make them any less admirable or desirable in my book. For the LC to be the fastest production saloon for the 10 years following its release surely commands the respect of any petrolhead?? And back on the subject of outright power/speed, despite being a huge fan of the E39 M5 (I very nearly bought one 2 weeks ago), I'd still bet that the LC would give it a damn good run for its money - just check the power and torque to weight ratios.
