adnanshah247
now guys im 22 in the last 2 years i have been smoking as a social thing. in the last 2 months i have realised that my smoking is far from social and that i am really stuck on it and smoking like a damn chimmney. im sick of the habit, i cant play sports like i used to. i used to have a solid 6 pack but now have developed a gut because i dont go gym much anymore and the sports i did use to play i cant because im huffing and puffing all over the place! lately im ashamed to admit that 20 cigrettes a day will dissapear and im really beginning to get worried. i can actually now feel differences in my cravings and my physical state. i wake up in the morning coughing up all sorts of crap. i do get stressed at work and day to day life but i used to deal with worst before i was smoking. i feel slow and unfit. i have tried to not smoke but i find it difficult. when im driving i must smoke, when im with friends they smoke and i do as well. when i have eaten my body needs a cigrette to push it down. i get head rushes and feel drained but i know its bad for me, i know the effects its having, i know that i have gone unfit, i want to quit but im feeling the pain without the little sticks. i really need help and support. maybe you guys could help. be bossy or something. rip on me more so i can quit. im hoping to go today without a smoke, eventually tomorrow and so forth but all i need right now is help and support. i need an aggony aunt on my case daily! as for nicotine strips thats all crap and want to give up smoking without aids, i want to do it like a man which as for now isnt happening. please help Adnan
ClaireRZ-S
Right i was exactly like you years ago i smoked 20 a day and i just went cold turkey. You need to find something to keep your hands occupied if you need a fag maybe go for a chewing gum or something the craving is only in your mind for a few minutes so once you pass it for that certain time you'll be grand. Smoking is more than a habit than anything else try and keep yourself busy the hardest i found was going out and not being able to smoke but i mean you get use to it, i still miss them but im glad the habit is gone. My friend was a very bad smoker shes on the tablets that when you smoke you'll get really sick and they are working for her because now shes just put off from smoking. adnanshah247
thing is stuff like the costs etc just dont do anything for me. i mean first thing i have done is posted up my issue and brought it out into the open. man enough to admit that i have a problem. i tried once to go cold turkey, lasted 3 days before i was gagging for a fag. i think if i can make 1 week! just one solid week i will have it easy, from stuff i have read its the 1 week which is the most difficult to over come for all smokers. Mike
Have a read of this book - it might not stop you smoking for the rest of your life, but it will certainly change your opinion of the apparent 'cravings' everyone talks about. I smoke when I go out at the weekend (Friday/Saturday usually), and not through the week.. I can turn it on and off when I want
Tricky-Ricky
Sorry you're not going to like my reply, but if you really WANT TO GIVE UP, THEN JUST STOP! it all about will power, just make the decision, its the only way to do it, all this bull about using patches, hypnotherapy etc etc, will not get you anywhere if you don't make the decision. I actually gave up smoking 15 years ago, and i sis it during one of the most stressfull periods in my life, so just do it

Abz
Adnan I take it your asian brother... as all asian brothers smoke when they hook up...its a boyz thing?!? Right? Well I use to smoke, did for quite a while. I couldn't quit because everything I linked my mates they use to always have a fag... its hard no doubt, but after seeing my mate get lung cancer I went cold turkey on the same day. His survived it but his lost 2 years of his life & is still in pain! The cravings are not real...how do I know? Same as Mike I can stop & start smoking... I spend 2 weeks on holiday constantly smoking 20 a day & then back in the office an I don't touch one fag, though at the weekends I am smoking all weekend & then the weekday I don't smoke. I have managed to help some of my mates quit smoking: 1. Cut down so instead of 20 a day have 15 & then the following week 10 a day. 2. Stop the chain effect, when your mates spark up, dont have one... spark up on the next link (if you get my drift). 3. Make sure your super busy. 4. Look at yourself in the mirror. 5. Do you really wanna fail in the bedroom? Failing all that I have a pretty hot girl friend who can help you deal with your problem, she works for the NHS I believe & does this whole help you stop smoking, if you want her details then PM me. Oh a major thing, ban smoking in your car, even if your mates want one... dont let them as they are influence!
Kranz
Do you smoke at home?????? Or only at work/in the car/out with friends? One way I found of giving up was to get someone to buy 200 duty free, and I locked them away at home and gave someone else the key. Then when I was out and gagging for a smoke I'd think about buying some from one of those rip off machines, but would think "No, I'll wait until I get home and then open those 200"..... But by the time I got home I didn't fancy having one, so the packet remained locked up I was quite skint at the time though lol Either that or get a mate to punch you in the face every time you try to light one Tricks like that, where you use a combination of clever psychology and extreme violence, will nearly always work

AlanM
All you need is your head to be right man, and it sounds like yours is, so go for it, it ain't too difficult (I came from 40+ a day). Oh, and why do you let people smoke in your car anyway?
RedM
im going to tell all my mates to not smoke around me or in my car. its when they smoke im super influenced to smoke! im going to stick by my guns. Erm... you can't really ask your mates to change their behaviour just because you want to change yours. Either give up or don't. Don't use them as an excuse. Apologies if it sounds like I have little sympathy for addicts. It's because I don't.

RedM
Smoking in a car is just wrong. I think that it's also only 'allowable' due to a legal loophole. Last I heard they were trying to tighten it up. It worked so well for mobile phones.
Axle
If you get the urge to smoke, just chew on gum.. Eventually you will stop doing both.
supra_aero
What made you smoke in the first place? It's a terrible habit Adnan. That said I used to , but only like 10 a year. I just stopped as I hated the smell and the smell stinking my clothes. Plus after each cigarette I could feel my lungs felt worse each time. I would say stop hanging around with friends who smoke, or leave them if they are going to places where you know they'll smoke even more. Gaz6002
I quit cigarettes on New Years Eve a few years back. If you pick a landmark time like I did then it gets easier the longer you last. You just need to keep thinking: "if I smoke now, it's x weeks/months/years down the drain"
Lbm
Adnan dear boy...Just buy the book Mike was referring to: Allan Carrs Easyway to stop feeling sh1t/guilty/unhealthy...sorry I mean Easyway to Stop Smoking. Good luck chap. I'll place a gentlemanly bet with you - Buy the book. If you don't stop. I'll refund you the money.

jim
I have the book sitting here on my desk in work, I bought it two years ago and never once opened it If you pm me your address I'll stick it in an envelope and fire it in the post for you FOC bud, a couple of friends who were heavy smokers read it and quit, people that I thought would never stop too. I gave up on the 20th September, but used champix (on prescription from my doctor) to do it. Have to say it was actually really easy with the tablets, I've tried cold turkey, patches, gum etc in the past all with no success. I couldn't really recommend them though given the side effects some people have had, the decision to take them would be up to you and you'd need to think about whether they're appropriate for you. Don't expect to feel great about giving up and being free of the dirty habit, to be honest it'll be all you can think about for the first few weeks and it will make you miserable, but you don't need me or anyone else to tell you that the benefits of giving up are well worth a little pain. I don't feel like I've cheated, or been less 'manly' by going off them using the tablets - by whatever means necessary and all that. I do however feel like I've cheated because although I've stopped cigarettes, I've not stopped 'smoking' but that's a future battle... Good luck with it mate, you can do it, and feel free to pm me if you want the book.
