Talk Talk Broadband / Router / Connector Problems?!

We've been with talktalk for a long time now.

Now and again the internet goes down but always gets sorted with a day.

Something strange has happened recently though. The internet connection has really taken a turn for the worse.

Downstairs we have a netgear router. I have my PC upstairs and connect to it via a belkin USB wireless connector. The belkin connectivity window always shows the PC being connected to the router. But the internet connection constantly dies then reconnects then dies then reconnects.

The computer downs stairs which is connected directly to the route via cable seems to be working fine. But i can't be sure whether it's because the internet seems to be working at the the time of use. I refuse to use the Downstairs PC because it is so old and slow it annoys me beyond belief.

Any ideas? Is it the router? Belkin? Talk Talk?

Sounds like you're getting interference between the router and external wireless adaptor IMO.

How can i rectify that? hang on.... i bought a signal booster antenna for the freeview box not that long ago. Could that be the problem? MIght try turning that off tonight.

Do we have a light bulb smiley? :D

Well you can narrow it down by either trying the downstairs pc when the laptop looses the internet, plug the laptop in via a cable to the reuter and see if it works. so you'll know if its a service problem, wireless or perhaps the laptop.

Ive just used several belkin wireless devices, pcmcia and usb and had lots of grief, dropping connections but still showing as connected. But then i know several others who havent. At home my laptop just has wireless built in and have never had any problems. Either try a different laptop on your wireless (with the belkin) or try a different wireless adaptor on your laptop to troubleshoot Matt.
