Matt H
no probs mate i mean, i guess if u imagine a witch in the classic little old lady with a hat and a broom stick, then I guess it would be amusing Witches are portrayed that way because when Christianity was introduced thosands of years ago, they needed to de-value the strong hold the pagan religion had at the time. So they put evil meanings to symbols of the pagan religion. The witches hat for one, Same style to the pagan preists. etc etc
Stonkin
Thanks for your posts Alex, you clearly have some strong beliefs, and i respect that. These things will always remain as 'one of lifes mysterys' eh. Personally i dont go to church, i cant say i believe in god, i also cant say i dont, simply because i have no proof. I guess like many others it intregues me purely because i have no factual proof and we live in a world these days where beliefs need to be supported by facts. When i mentioned this today to people at work, there is a guy who sits behind me who does go to church and also have beliefs, he doesnt normally give his opinions openly on this subject as at the end of the day, they are HIS beliefs. But he did say to me, you a nice guy, please leave these things well alone. I have done quite a lot of reading about this on the internet today and there are certainly some spooky stories going about. But to me, the most logical explanation is what others have said at the beginning. The only problem i see is if you dive too depply and end up relying on it to run your life, ie, you will never be able to make your own decisions in life without asking the board its opinion, which is why i agree it shouldnt be messed with so not to change your character as a person. Still quite entertaining though

Chiefgroover
no probs Correction on your earlier post, Bible says "Do nothing to contact the dead". It doesnt say you cant do it, but strongly advises against it. Some famous household name person who's name I cant remember this evening once said "Satan's best trick was to convince people he didnt exist". Looks like he suceeded very well lmao ! mathew
i find it hard to understand how people can still believe in this sort of bumf. why on earth would a spirit only contact you when you are sat at a table with a finger on a cup?! ..hang on that gives me an idea.......... http://www.1spirit1cup.com! Scooter
... and to be honest, you can mock all you want............. ok if a 1/3 of the old angels are now demons I think we are all getting a poor deal from the lazy arse 2/3's of the good guys left! Where's the 'wowji' board the one where the angels mimmick your old friends and relatives and give you a good confidence boost and throw in a few laughs for everyone round the table? Mrs H
Messed about with these when I was younger, won't do it again. Someone close to me once had a go] on one years ago, it apparently communicated to them in German, something about travel. About 18 months later two or three of the girls involved were killed when the plane they were on crashed over Germany. Someone else I know got a visit from the CID when they were messing around with these at uni and where threatened with being charged with witchcraft:blink: is that an acutal crime nowadays??? tbourner
Temporary alignment of subconscious axial psychic energies, resulting in diffusion of energy into the 4th dimension causing potential-kinetic phase change in 4th dimensional objects. Simple as that.

Tannhauser
Witches are portrayed that way because when Christianity was introduced thosands of years ago, they needed to de-value the strong hold the pagan religion had at the time. So they put evil meanings to symbols of the pagan religion. The witches hat for one, Same style to the pagan preists. etc etc The church definitely 'invented' the associations of witchcraft as you say , but I don't think that it was really due to a power struggle with the pagans. The whole broomstick thing, and the persecutions started with a Papal bull and that maleficum wotsit document, around 1500s (?). It was quite late on anyway (not that it could really be thousands of years ago, if it was Christianity ), with paganism already no threat. Tannhauser
Just had a read about this in Norman Davies' 'History of Europe' (a really cracking book). p437: "Witchcraft developed in parallel to Christian mysticism.....Yet the systematic practice of witchcraft seems to be a product of the late medieval period....The standard handbook for witchhunters, the Malleus Maleficarum, was published in 1486 by the Dominicans....Henceforth all Christendom knew [that witches] anonted themselves with grease from the flesh of unbaptised children,..rode stark naked on broomsticks....[etc]" p536:"The witch craze poses many problems. Historians have to explain why the age of the Renaissance and the Reformation proved so much ore vicious in this regard than the so-called Dark Ages......They usually attribute it to the pathological effects of religious conflict" So it seems as though the conflict between Protestants and Catholics made both sides want to lay claim to being the pure faith (kind of like Labour and Conservatives both wanting to show they are tough on crime) and the poor old witches got caught in the middle. Interesting stuff (but kept to five paras for the soundbite generation )

Stonkin
Ive seen where people have asked 'the spirit' to move an object in the room to show their existence. Has anyone ever done this and did it work? Because im sorry but if that happened id be jumping in the supra with the pedal pressed so hard it would probably come through the floor
