You say check out John 3:16 in your sig..

I think you have it wrong, i'm sure it was Austin 3:16 :search: ... :D

lol sorry no, i do mean John 3:16 :) And im happy to recite it for you if you like :D

It's old news though isn't it? All centred around worshipping the sun, the star in the east, the three kings, 12 disciples, 25th December, 3 day resurrection etc.

It's all been worshipped before, over 6000 years ago. It just wasn't called Christianity.

You kinda pulled alot of different pagan things together there my friend lol, alot of the old testament speaks against these things :)

Alex,

How closely do you follow the teachings of the bible?

I follow it as closly as I can my friend :) I mean, im not perfect, and have messed up alot.. but as close as i can.....

I think know where this question is going though! ;)

Perhaps you could get a spirit to move a clay bar around a bonnet? Free labour and all that. :)

:D what a great unique selling point! Have your car detailed by the demons. It also gives my business name of Invisible Touch a whole new meaning hahaha :D

Trappings fundamental to the teachings though, surely? They lack credibility, and hence the teachings do.

Not really. You said that you subscribe more easily to things you can relate to, and that's the same for everyone. People need the ceremonies, the holy days, the symbolism to more easily connect with the central ideas. In the same way that most people celebrate secular events like birthdays or Mother's Day. But the trappings aren't the concepts.

Nor does it follow that if things like the star in the East lack credibility, so do the teachings of Jesus. The vast majority of Christians don't believe that the Old Testament is literal, historical truth and I'm guessing that quite a few wouldn't take every aspect of the New Testament in the same way. The trappings also vary from faith to faith - Protestants don't buy transubstantiation, but they still share with Catholics faith in the central tenets.

As for "His" message: well, I think people are quick to confuse morals with religion.

How true. In particular, in a secular age, it's easy to forget that the moral system our whole society is built on in the West is derived not from Confucianism, Buddhism, Communism or even atheism, but from Judaeo-Christian concepts (mingled in with some feudalism and classical influences).

Like it or not, and regardless of personal beliefs, Christianity is at the core of where, as Westerners, we have come from.

For me it's easier to subscribe to things I can relate to. The whole jesus/god thing is so riddled with inaccuracies it's laughable.

I'm interested to know what these inaccuracies are?

I think it's strange to feel the need to differentiate between east, west and the moon. Surely as a human race or even just a set of morals, we've been here a lot longer than the conflicts or differences between areas have.

I don't believe Christianity is where we came from. In fact, quite the opposite. Christianity has been detrimental IMO, and is the cause of so much close-mindedness and lack of progress in the world today.

yep :) a long time before the Egyptians... Egypt is in the bible LOADS actually, historically they are the people that had the Israelites in captivity until the Herod of the time let em go...

I believe my God made the world, so the OT reaches back right till the start of time.

Don't worry, I already know it. It goes:

AND THAT'S THE BOTTOM LIIIIIIINNNEEEE.......BECAUSE STONE.. COLD.. SAID SO!!

I don't agree with that. It may be that certain things have been delayed or seen a hick up because of there contradiction to religion perhaps, but with technological advancement comes money. Lots of it! so that will always win out.

Also, how ever you portray them, a strongly christian family tend to have morals that see them not commiting crimes or bothering anyone. They exist in the community and obey the laws.

On the flip side, i quess there are a lot of idiots out there who see religion as trendy and take the mick out of it by saying they are deeply religious etc etc but go and do what ever they want anyway! 2-pac for instance.

I think actually in this society with money comes technological advancement, not the other way round. But that's another discussion. :)

Agreed, but aren't the teachings of all the major religions based around humans being morally acceptable to others? I don't see why it's so important to believe in stories and tales when a decent set of social and psychological morals will go just as far.

lol close, "for God so loved us, that he sent his only son to this earth to die for all of the things that we do wrong. So now who ever believes in him, now will not die but shall have eternal life" John 3:16

.

You make your technological advancement and sell it / from it. You need to watch and episode of the dragons den!! Or, if you're American, you design a new missle, then sell it to the iranians ;) False economy though that one because you only have to then spend money trying to get it back off them!! :D

But they have consequence. If we do something wrong, well it's just on our consence. But if they do something wrong, then lucifer will be shoving a 14" dildo up your arse for all eternity after, and you won't get to sample the daily virgin clunge in heaven.... If i believed in that i defo wouldn't steal that mars bar!! :D

Which wrings us on to one of the reason religion exists; Power and Control.. bwah ha ha ha ha.

So now who ever believes in him, now will not die but shall have eternal life

Basically if you don't believe, you go to hell? Or just cease to exist when you die?

Is that a bit like saying believing is all-embracing; outside of it no human or spiritual values can exist, much less have value? Cos that's the fascist doctrine!!

Sounds remarkably like what Jor-El did for us. See my Sig below.

Jor-El 3:16 ;)

Down to the brass tacks... God says I love you, will you love me back? Choose to love me back and I will save you from your own fate.

You are already going to hell, let Jesus save you...

and yes matt... it sounds excactly like what Jor-El did lol in fact they could of well stolen that line from the bible lol

What a great bit of marketing. Join us and never die. probably just the same as die for us and have seventy virgins. I wonder what a modern ad agency would come up with. probably something with a more commercial emphasis. eg.

Worship at asda and shop for evermore for free in the afterlife.

:faint:

Seriously? Christianity suggests that ALL life is destined to go to hell, just through the natural order of things; you live for a few years, then your soul burns forever in eternal tourment! But god created this whole thing so he must have designed this little caveat into the process from the start. Then suddenly wahey some bloke happens to have come along and can save us all if we just agree to follow him in everything we do in those short years!

Sounds more and more like fascism to me - now you're here you've got a pretty crappy choice; you can follow me or die horribly screaming in pain. Nice.
