Very keen to hear peoples thoughts on these :D

Did one of these with 4 other friends Saturday night whilst out camping for a few days. Now im an open minded person, i wouldnt ever say the dark side doesnt exist, or that it does, but im integued and always have been :)

Two of us had never done it, the other 3 girls had. So we set it up, which took a while as admitedly we were trashed :D Placed our fingers on the mug in the middle of the table and had to go round the table saying our feet were firmly on the ground, which during the fits of laughter took about 30 mins in itself :) We then invited anyone to come and join us. As it turned out it was my friends sister :(

We had to quite quickly turn it into a happy environment as it could have so easily become very sad and created a very bad atmosphere, but he pulled through it and we all had a lot of fun.

Now being trashed or not i feel was irrelevant as we were all perfectly in control (well kind of :) ) but watching a mug swiftly move around the table answering questions was some seriously freaky sh*t! Different people took it in turns to take a rest as to be honest it was very tiring, but the cup moved so violently around the table that at one point it actually flew off and went flying across the room! We all just had one finger gently resting on it, but the energy the mug held was quite honestly ridiculous.

The feeling you get when 'someone walks over your grave' that brief shiver, it was like this constantly for about 4 hours!

What are peoples thoughts on this as it was seriously one of the most freakiest things ive ever done :D

Used one years ago. Its ALWAYS someone moving the mug, or object, or whatever you choose to use.

I'm a very open minded person but when it comes to communicating with the dead, mindreading and anything else in that genre i have done the legwork to know better (amature magician).

However, its always good for a laugh :)

haha, mate, that happened. We asked her to spell the middle name of my friend, the cup worked its way all round the table but not actually picking any letters for about 5 mins. One of the women then said, Sean, was your sister dyslexic? and yes she was, so had to stick with 'yes' 'no' questions :D

Now im sorry but that just feaked me out even more!

Someone/people was/were pulling everyones leg then.

Lets put it this way, if a spirit can move a mug, they can write with a pen. Tell you what, next time you want to try it put a piece of paper onto the table. Put a pen onto the paper and put your finger on top (biro side down obviously). Get everyone else to put their fingers on top of yours. If you feel pressure coming from above you know someone is trying to move the pen. If the pen moves itself then your onto something.

I know where my money is though ;)

Thats a good idea Scott :) Personally i still dont believe it was a spirit in the room, well apart from the empty bottles lying around. But i honestly didnt know if it was being moved by people or perhaps just some kind of strange energy that is created when several people are balancing their arm for quite a period of time?

I love these supernatural-type threads :). I'm with Raven on this. I wouldn't mess with it. If you're convinced it's bulls**t, then it's pointless (although potentially quite funny at watching people's reactions), if you think there might be something in it, then you're mucking about with something you can't even begin to comprehend. I don't want to try to put you off though... :D

I heard of many (and witnessed one) occasion which makes me think there is something "out there". I just hope you've got a strong constitution, otherwise you'll need a change of underwear every time something spooky happens to you from now on. :D

Edit: I also agree that the power of suggestion etc can be very strong in these sorts of circumstances. I'm just easily frightened, so I wouldn't take the risk of having a ghost follow me around. It would just put the willies up me. :(

I also dont understand if your all balancing the tip of your finger, how a china mug can literally fly off the table to the other side of the room. I was surprised it didnt smash it, thats how quick it moved,

I have "a spirit" like that aswell at home, its called misses....She can move china around with the speed of light....and no matter her degree of rage, shes always able to pick the old china first......:sos::help:

The thing is with that scott is you would think someone would own up in the end,

"HAHAH you fools it was me moving it"

Never heard of anyone admiting to doing it yet. I hear what your saying tho.

Honestly noone has ever admitted to moving the thing. Even as far back as when we used the inside of a cornflakes box to make the board when i had an "empty" one night. The thing was all over the place.

I think there may be something in the collective will of suggestion. If you think something your body will try to make it happen, perhaps that is what was going on in this case. If i saw the mug flying i could tell you who did it. They would have had an outstretched arm.

Ok, Sean takes his finger off the mug (it was his sister we were 'talking' to) None of us have ever met her.

Sean asked, how tall were you, were you 5" 8', the cup moved to no, were you 5" 2', it hovered around no, were you 5' and it violently moved to yes. She was 5" :)

i cant get to grips with things i dont understand, hence the thread incase anyone actually knows a logical explanation. If its being delibrately moved, why would people do it, i wouldnt see the point.

Its fun :) As i said, we did it LOADS when we were teenagers. Its like psychics and all that stuff, if there was anything there to tap into, the scientific community would have already.

Like most teenagers (I guess) I did this a few times at some parties many years ago. After a few goes I got to hear about the usual explanations about how it "works", from the obvious one person pushing the glass around to the less obvious one where someone subconsciously apples force to the glass in a particular direction, maybe not enough to move it, but enough for the others to feel it through their fingertips. They in turn "allow" the glass to move in this direction and in doing so also subconsciously push the glass along. So no one thinks they are pushing the glass, but in fact they all are. Quite how this turns into legible words I don't know but I'd also heard that by looking at the board you could anticipate what the next letter should be and therefore tend to "allow" the glass to move in that direction rather than moving randomly.

Anyhow, at my last attempt on the board I decided to remove all of the above factors by only resting my fingernail on the glass (therefore I couldn't apply any pressure to it had I wanted to - my nail would just skid across the glass rather than moving it on the table) and also by not looking at the board at all. This went on for a few minutes with myself and a girl opposite me with our fingers on the glass. After a few words were spelled out I decided that whatever was making the glass move was working without my subconscious involvement, so I'd have a peek. When I looked at the board I was shocked to find that in fact the girl had dropped out (I have no idea when) and the glass was happily moving along with only my fingernail resting on it. I distinctly recall having enough time to form the thought "bloody hell - this is actually working" and then the glass stopped moving.

I didn't do it any more after that. :)

It's the mechanics of the thing that get me. If there are spirits random hanging around, why do they wait until we pull out a board and still a glass on it before they start 'having a chat'? surely they could rearrange the magnetic letters on my fridge or something?

I have to say, I don't buy this...

Yeah thats pretty much my point. I suggest the pen technique next time. If that works then get it on video. It will be worth thousands.
