j1mb0b1
I have the same at the moment, I have got mine into the garage tomorrow they are checking all the Sub frame bolts as they are very common on supras and can make a loud knocking sound I think this is the same problem as you have just get the car up on the ramps and get ut checked out by somone who knows what they are doing... Guest Dave20VT
rgr, let me know how u get on and am i ok to keep driving or shal i not drive it till then??
Ian C
That sounds bad enough to not drive it if possible If suspension parts are moving enough to cause that level of sound they are moving fast and a relatively long distance. Bolts can start to fret and snap at those load levels. -Ian
Guest Dave20VT
right ive jacked the car up had a look underneath... there isnt any like movement anywhere all bolts seem tight... it isnt like a klonk noise its more like the noise u get if u were to bang on a thin sheet of metal with a hammer... its hard to explain. like a tinny crashing sound ive also tapped and knocked all areas to see if i can get the sound but nothing... the only area that sounds remotely like it but would need a hell of a force to make a sound like i hear is the exhaust pipe hitting something? i havnt a clue:s
pistonbroke
Is the car lowered, sound like incorrectly seated springs.
madmarf
could be the exhaust shields in the tunnel or at the rear. give them a tap and see if they rattle

You need to have a poke about when the weight of the car is still on the wheels imo, as the weight is taken off the wheels you might not be able to see/feel any movement in suspension etc etc, if you get what I mean? Try and get it up on a ramp
Guest Dave20VT
right i havnt driven the car for a few weeks as have been on holiday. maybe crashing sound wasnt the right terminology... its more like a bag of ice being crushed lol. it happens when moving at dips or blemishes in the road, maybe something rubbing on the floor? and it happens everytime i go over a speed hump. like the minute the front wheels go on it its that sound, il try record it for you guys so you can have a look/listen. my thoughts really are something suspension related its at the front cause only happens on when the front wheels hit the speed hump. or its something catching on the floor as it sometimes sounds like a scrape but the same sound if you get me. dave
Dave17
Yeah i get a similar thing on mine over speed bumps, it's the lowest part of my exhaust grinding on the big ones...
Guest Dave20VT
humm. and if im at speed say 80ish... when going over like ups and lows in country roads it happens then and sounds more like a scrape. as said before il try record it.
Ian C
Ahahahahaaaaa! I'm going to say - it's your undertray (so I hope you've got one fitted or I'll be disappointed!) If your undertray is incorrectly fitted, it can pick up in the airflow and deform downwards at speeds of 80mph ish, at which point every slight downward squat of the car will result in a "tshh" noise coming from the front of the car. Yet when you go to look under the stationary car it is miles away from the road surface as there is no airflow deforming it any more. Check the undertray at the centre, roughly where the back of it splits into two - probably got scuff marks -Ian
Guest Dave20VT
Bingo sounds exactly that , but would that explain the "ice crushing " sound over speed humps ?
Ian C
Yes Just go check it already
