N/A Engine Complete Cheap for Powerboat Project

Recommended Posts

I Need (Cheapish) a Good Non Turbo 2JZGE 3.0 engine, and ancillaries if possible.

I threw 2 away last year

I have a boat, Four winns 190 Freedom with a nackered 4.3V6 OMC Cobra (Chevy Small Block)

I also have a N/A-T Manifold and a 2JZ to American gearbox adapter plate!

So 80% of the difficult parts for marinising the engine are in my workshop :eyebrows:

If i can find an engine (And the moderators allow me) I will start a projects thread.

I plan to run a total loss cooling system, with extra Zinc anodes fitted to the cylinder head to prevent corrosion.

I am excited because in standard Form (160hp) the boat does 48-52mph @ 5000rpm.

The Original engine is heavier then the supra engine and the Supra engine has 1750 more rpm, Also being de-catted, having a free flowing 3" exhaust system and an open airflow i could see 230hp+

I reckon we could be looking at a 70mph boat, Which is Very fast on the water. Also turnkey EFI fuelling and great economy!

The outdrive already has its own built in self controlled flow waterpump system.

So If anyone wants help i would prefer a complete N/A engine, with looms and all ancillaries but anything in between will help.

I have fuel pumps and the knowledge to make this happen..

Also an 5 speed manual flywheel would help the conversion. (Can be scrap as far as car usage is concerned)..Again i threw one away recently

Willing to travel and collect.

Cheers!

You're not wrong there! I like the sound of this!

JamieP'll want one for his new purchase. :) Just supply his with a reinforced diff. :p

Would it be noisy do you think?

Thanks for all the replies.

The Coupling to the Outdrive is relatively easy. You use the original Marine Output damper and simply convert the 2JZ flywheel/Flex plate bolt pattern to that! Another way i might go if i can get a manual non dual mass flywheel is to go the Mercruiser route, This uses a 3 bolt flex plate design. With a bit of head scratchin and lots of ATI conversion kicking around at the moment as patterns it makes it a hole lot easier.

As far as cooling is concerned the std V6 uses a Mild steel impellered thrasher type water circ pump. The Supra one will be far more suitable than this as its Plastic and wont rot!

The OMC Cobra Outdrive is rated to a V8 Big Block 8.4 Chevy so will take the power fine.

It has a wet veined Variable Flow Impeller fitted to regulate the cooling flow depending on revs.

As far as torques are concerned with a boat this light i really don't think it will be a issue. However if someone can supply 2JZ N/A Torque i will research the V6 for comparisons sake.

My theory is that the Supra engine will be far more "Peaky" being twin cam and higher revving but with an already overpowered craft it shouldn't matter.

The same hull i am using also comes new with a 3.0 135hp Straight 4 piece of Sh*t.

And Just to Clarify JamieP's Reference to "Stuart" is not be..Must be another about :search:

The bigger OMC will probably have a higher torque output at much lower revs. I know from experience that my own NA does not do anything worthwhile until after 4K and gets on song after about 5K

Pushing a big boat like that out of the water will probably need you to get up to revs very quickly and at low speeds that will give you cavitation. Its just a thought but whatever - it is a good project. Now buy my Supe and pull the engine and put a TT in it. Hmmmmmm

Hoff whats your postcode so i can google the journey?

I would prefer one more local if poss :innocent:

Extendor...You should have bought a TT..You would not be bored and want to sell for "Lack of use":baby: I think a ride in mine once its back together might persuade ;)

Mercruiser Marine Technical Data only gived HP figures no torques :search:

Blimey :) - My first suggestions would be Keron or Jezz, and if you can get one that's 'sort of' local to me, I'll pop it down to you for fuel, if my sister'll let me borrow her car (I don't want to put it in the back of my Sup!) - Oh, and a ride in the beast when it's done of course!... (Cheaper than a courier, and I won't drop it on the floor... lol)

Thats nuts!

I remember being taken out in my mates fathers sunseeker a while back. His dad was a racing driver and had loads of cool toys. Fastest boat in Villamora harbour (apparently), in Portugal. Still one of my top 3 experiences. When he took a turn my face nearly met the water, and I was standing up. Didn't know a boat could handle so well. Think he said it was 55 knots (about 63 mph). Not bad for a large boat plus passengers. He had to back off due to sea conditions (we were bouncing off the top of the waves). Ahh, brings back memories.....

I Run my own Marine engineering Business http://www.seaworthymarine.co.uk

I raced in OCR (Offshore Circuit Racing) for 5 complete national seasons, Being national Champion Driver in 2006.

Then i got a offshore catamaran with a 200hp (80+mph), But its demise was quick due to me sourcing the Ultimate pro street Drag supra :eyebrows:

Thanks for the offer of delivery at cost on the engine, Maybe someone does have one closer to home??

There are plenty more videos of OCR and ME on Youtube

  • 2 months later...

Thanks to Keron Extreme performance i now have the N/A Engine, wiring loom,ECU and all ancialliaries here ready for the conversion :D

Looking for a Manual N/A flywheel to complete the parts.

I was scratchin my head on how to sort out the power steering on the boat, My original plan was to fabricate brackets to mount the original Marine PAS pump/Resevoir.

BUT, Why not plumb in the Toyota PAS pump and see what happens! Worst case scenario is the pressures are too high and it blows hot PAS fluid everywhere! What fun:blink::cool:

Think its time for some pics of said donor craft...
