DaveSupTT Posted May 6, 2009 Share Posted May 6, 2009 (edited) Can anyone help me with the following questions, relating to Automatic Transmission Torque Converter 1) How much ATF is required to refill torque converter? 2) The manual I have talks about checking drive plate runout and also torque converter sleeve runout. Terminator Posted May 6, 2009 Share Posted May 6, 2009 It is a while since I had my auto, but I believe you do not replace fluid directly to the TC, it will be filled by the pump. Just do the normal procedure for checking the fluid level,and top it up that way. As for the run out question, can't help. I suspect Chris Wilson would know. Chris Wilson Posted May 7, 2009 Share Posted May 7, 2009 The converter is filled via the pump as is the rest of the system, just be sure there's about a gallon in the gearbox if the converter is new and empty and start it up. Dip the oil after running a few minutes and selecting all gears in turn a few times. No need to drive it. Top up with engine idling in park. Unless you see pump or pump bushing issues, or the converter is modified I wouldn't worry about mounting it on the flex plate to check run out. You fit the box with the converter fully in the front of it. You DO NOT NOT NOT fit the converter on the flex plate first and then try and stab the box on the converter....
