PJ
This has probably been covered before. What's the difference, if any, between the front half of the prop on an auto compares against a 5 speed or 6 speed front prop? I've had a look on http://www.toyodiy.com and the front half of the props look identical, but then I've never been the best at gleaning information from there so I could be wrong Any ideas chaps? PJ
Yes, very droll, very useful..... Toyodiy points to the same page for the Propshaft from 1996 6 Speed RZ Vs the Propshaft from the 4 Speed Auto RZ http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_J_1996_TOYOTA_SUPRA_JZA80-ALFQZ_3701.html Would the only difference be the output flange/spline that connects to the front part of the prop? I cant realy see such a huge difference in design between the to shafts but im probly wrong but hey thats my 2 cents.
buster
i must say i always thought they are the same if there not i got a prop of a sz 5 speed you could buy
Krister
Auto + 6spd are the same but the first half is longer on the 6spd. 5spd drive shaft is attached with bolts in the center, not with the spline like TT's so you cant attach a 5spd prop shaft to a TT prop shaft in any way. Here's a picture of a 6spd vs auto drive shaft. The longer (bottom one) is 6spd. http://img18.imageshack.us/img18/1697/cimg2857wy1.jpg Edited May 4, 2009 by Krister (see edit history)
PJ
So if I have a front prop that measures 430mm is it from an auto or from a 6 speed? Odd though, as if they are different sizes I would have expected to see different part numbers on toyodit, unless it's incorrect and the EPC shows differently. The 5 speed prop looks completely different, again from looking at toyodiy.
garethr
All the part numbers from the EPC (TWT = TT). I assume that 9605 is when the manual TT went to the smaller diff, and 9908 is the tiptronic auto? http://mkivsupra.net/vbb/attachment.php?attachmentid=92066&d=1241449594 Edited May 4, 2009 by garethr (see edit history)

Measured like I draw on this picture, it's 47,5cm on a 6spd: http://img172.imageshack.us/img172/6780/cimg2857wy12.jpg
chazuk
Sorry for a very slight hijack, but I have everything I need for a manual conversion just minus the gearbox my tt has a lsd , and ideally I want to keep the auto diff so if I put the 5pd box in what propshaft would I need to link up to the auto rear diff ?.
