Kirby for sale

Tried to resist this thread - but given in... :)

I've sold vacuums for about thirty years including Numatic (the people who make the brilliant "Henry") Nilfisk, WAP and lately Karcher.

Kirby are OK, old fashioned, but OK.

They don't filter better than most other modern vacuums, a Numatic with a microfilter gives 99.97% !

They don't clean better than any other vacuum and they are far to big and heavy to be practical for everyday cleaning.

I'm willing to bet 90% of people who own one, have another small vac to use and the Kirby stays in the cupboard.

They sell for two reasons:

1, High commission salesmen that won't leave your house till you buy one, and use every and any means to get your money.

2, Kings New Coast Sindrome: If you just paid £2K for a vacuum, would you admit to anybody that it was unpracticle and you were gullible ?

Not trying to spoil your thread Crash, but I would't sell one to anybody I liked !

I love my other half but I'd never spend that much on her.

In nearly three years of being here, that is your finest comment.....:D

Whatever a vacumme is, I want one??:)

Nearly took a job as a Kirby salesman back when I was about 23.

I say nearly as the interview was the first time I found out what the job actually entailed!

Me too, the interview was shocking, I got the job as the sales Manager liked my smile (yes I used to smile once).

Then came the, do you have any questions part. I swiftly lost interest when I found out exactly what kind of sales I would be involved in.

They are meant to be the best in the world, but seriously retarded if actually bought one. Stick with a Dyson or similar as a lot cheaper.

In all honesty, I can't really tell you anything specific as that's just how the recruitment process was...very secretive!

The job ad was rather vague with no mention of specific roles or products and the interviews were held by a local 'area manager' in a hotel lobbey!

During the very informal interview, I recall emphasis being made on past sales experience and communication skills which you would expect. Even at this point there were hardly any details given as to what the products were, just the name of the brand and that you would work as part of a sales team before hopefully building up to train other new starts.

A very big deal was made of the amount of cash you could make, although that's probably the case for most sales jobs of this ilk.

I was offered the job on the spot basically and had to say I'd think about it and get back to him, by that point I pretty much knew it wasn't for me anyway.

exactly the same as my interview lol

When i got home i was telling the old fella about it, he was in this line of business at the time and he said to me '' i bet ya all the demonstrations they did were against all crap hoovers and no proper brand was there '' I was like yep :p

funny stuff though, got a good laugh for about 5 hours at the

training session :D
