Knocking noise!

Thought that would get you looking. :)

I have fitted grooved disks and have a knocking noise coming from them. It stops when i touch the brake.

Is there something i can do to stop this? As if this is the norm I am going to have to remove them as it sounds terrible.

I did think it maybe the pads needed bedding in so i gave them a VERY hard time. That stopped it for a short period but it came back :(

Hopefully it's not the discs knocking, it's the new pads you should have fitted.

There is no way the disc itself could knock, unless you have done something very wrong.

Im sure the noise is the pads hitting the groves.

does it do it under heavy braking, you will get a bit of noise from drilled/grooved discs, i would let them bed in a bit

Nope, its only when there is no brake applied.

As soon as i apply the brake the noise stops.

That is why I said rattle pins, as soon as you use the brakes the pad will be at the top of the caliper and held there by the rotating friction of the disc. Once you release pressure they will drop down again and bounce with the wheel's travel.

I have grooved discs all round, and I don't get any knocking,, as others have said, it sounds like the return springs/clips haven't been fitted

Reminds me of a video one of the Time Attack boys posted up last year. There was a horrible knocking noise that was timed with the road speed. Sounded to me like the alloy was hitting the caliper, but apparently it was something else - have a search.

Hi,

Is it more of fast ticking noise that obviously gets quicker as the cars speed does and as you say goes as you brake? The reason I ask is I fitted grooved and dimpled discs with new pads to the front of mine a couple of months ago and with the windows down you could here the quick ticking.

I have to say though that mine are getting less noisey as they bed in propperly, but if its a propper knocking sound then it isn't the same.

Bob.
