sipstrassi
My boss has put spyware on the computers at work. I had a look at what it does. Logs everything you do. Keystrokes, what programmes are open, websites visited. it even records passwords. Does this not break data protection laws? Pete
Gaz6002
Not if it's not your computer. They can do whatever they want on computers they own. Been looking at things you shouldn't then?
Kranz
No.... as you are using computers at work during work time and being paid to work..... then everything you do belongs to them! They should have a non-monitored computer for staff to use during breaks etc though.... if they are a decent employer.
marbleapple
I know people above are saying it's legal but obtaining covert evidence for employment issues is often frowned upon by the courts. Just like filming without your knowledge. Not illegal but limited in it's usability. It depends what he plans to do with the information You may be breaching your contract with the employer for using your work Computer for issues you are not allowed to though. edge
Just do some searches on your work computer like "10 top ways to torture your boss" or "how to murder your boss and get away with it"

RedM
I don't get paid for my lunch break. Can I be 'spyed' on legally at that time?
Kranz
Yes, but you probably can't be disciplined for the content that's viewed, unless there is a clause in your contract about such things, or bringing the company into disrepute.... or viruses or such? Pete
They should tell you that they may monitor your computer usage in the Terms of Employment somewhere.

They could use it to say it's affecting your performance or is a abuse of company resources. Streaming video/radio etc could have a big impact on systems.
