BC - this is no worse than a simple influenza virus if you have a good diet and lifestyle (and i don't mean lots of pancakes!!)

Worst effects you are likely to get are a snotty nose and wheezy cough. Those at high risk (diabetics, the elderly - both of which catagories I fall into LOL), will already have been offered annual flu jabs last winter and this will be protection enough.

Like if you suffer from hayfever you are advised to eat local honey to receive the neccessary antigens.

Therefore you should eat loads of fajitas and chilli con carne :p

Just my opinion by the way. I will not be held legally responsible for any club member who dies from the virus as a result of my advice!!

True mate. I did microbiology at uni and local honey contains the antigens from local pollen. This in turn triggers the releases of antibodies in the body and hence desensitises the body to these antigens and the bodies reaction (allergy).

You could also catch a few hundred honey bees and make a delicious soup out of them as this will also work. Stings will be like eating chilli with it lol!!

Do you know how many people die from normal flu a year in the uk? I think it runs somwhere near 20k people? or am i wrong?

I don't know the figures but a hell of a lot of people that die of "normal" flu are already pretty screwed from other illness and the flu just finishes them off.

Isnt this what swine flu will do? i mean a normal healthy person should get over it correct? or is it some nasty super flu that kills you stone dead inside a week? Or is it simply that the spread will be so bad that it will infect those that might be at risk, thus making them die?

Just trying to work out whats what in all the paper junk, figures are now saying 40k people could die (unless you read the sun in which case we are all doomed)

It depends on the individual. I suffer very badly from Hayfever and the honey method does not work in the slightest.

The only thing that has ever cured my Hayfever is prednisolone. Believe me I suffer and so does anyone around me and have done for 31 years, Over the counter stuff and prescription antihistameans have never worked (I usually take 4-5 one a day tablets and still no relief).

Then the doc gave me prenisolone and after 3 days no hayfever. The draw back though is it's a steriod.

Anyway back on topic.

The trouble with flu viruses it that there's two different antigens (H and N) both of which have 15 and 9 subtypes respectively. There's only certain combinations with affect certain species (except birds which seem to get most of them). It's only a problem for people when the virus in another animal mutates and becomes infectious to humans.

These flus are potentially a lot worse because no human immune system has even had to deal with them before unlike "regular flu". I always thought the next serious flu epidemic would start from a mutated bird virus rather than pigs.

Edit: BTW nobody can buy vaccine because there's no such thing yet. The drugs people are getting are antivirals.

Got ya so its worse as the human race has not come into contact with it and therefore has no antibodies to fight it off?

in america this year - 3 people dead from swine flu, sadly a 3 year old was one so in the at risk group. during the same period 295 died of "normal" flu.

The swine flu pandemic is now being touted as being about to kill up to 750,000 in the uk, so if that scaremongering is true then normal flu will do 75,000,000. Anyone got a single turbo with 800bhp they want rid of before they get catch it and miss their chance of a few quid?:innocent:

oh yeah and global warming is about to frazzle us...and there's a comet about to hit earth and obliterate us...and there's an ice age overdue...and the poles are about to swap polarity and destroy all our infrastructure and we're going to starve...and the suns growing and going to explode...and the earth's drifting away from the sun and we'll freeze...and a supervolcano is about to go off and fill the sky with dust for ten years...and petrol's about to go up by 10p a litre.

Guess which one worries me most :D

Mmmmm.. Swine flu.. Was planning on going to Mexico as well soon so am pretty pissed off this happend. It's the usual thing I rekon; some perv sleeps with a pig and a disease gets mutated when the animal in question comes into contact with a human.
