Scott
Just get a dipstick made up on the fuel cap. Keep a rag with you. Job done My 106 gets 300 miles to a tank, the mr2 gets 250 and the supra gets 300. I guess that shows that i know how many miles i have left without the use of a gauge. I use the trip allll the time. I don't think about it though, its just 2nd nature.

dannysupratt
Would it be a big job to put a digital one on a bike to make it more accurate? You really wouldnt need one, when the light comes on you have plenty of miles left 20-30. If you want to check you can physically look but just opening the fuel filler cap and shaking the bike side to side
Chewie
Car drivers are spoilt with all these gauges for everything. My 2007 Triumph Speed Triple has a warning light and that basically gives you 20 miles of biking before everything grinds to a halt. You should find a petrol station easily before then. As a secondary warning, use the trip meter. Range is about 120 miles/tank the way I ride. Don't bother with this "digital" conversion. Just because it's a number doesn't mean it's more accurate. And remember petrol sloshes around so the level would never be constant. Pointless really. Just buy the bike and ride it.
Matt H
I used to do exactly the same thing regarding getting to know roughly the tank range, as did many of my friends. I suggest you refrain from commenting when people have bike related questions in the future rather than guessing at the answer then slagging off people that actually know what they're talking about. So what's wrong with an observation on what appears quite logically to be a neanderthal method of working out how much petrol you have. I'm suprised in modern day times that, that is how thigns have to be done. But If you want to spit you dummy out then go ahead. And if i want to respond to someone slagging me off then i will, accordingly.
