say for example I wanted to take off my upgraded SMIC and replace it back with my stock SMIC....is that possible by working on ramps?

Appologies for all these mundaine questions.... I'm wanting to fully sort the problem myself ...in labour work that is...(for once).

SMIC fit

It is possible to do it with the bumper on, but is not easy and you could damage the unit. :)

  • 2 weeks later...

Ok, finally had the combination of some free time and some good weather which enabled me to try and fix the problem I have with the boost.

After doing the previous tests it was apparent that the leak was coming from the SMIC.

I have a deeper dimension aluminium SMIC built by RadTec and it seems to have failed.

The aluminium has simply blown itself apart !!

Luckily I still have my old stock SMIC which I re-fitted.

And I only sheared 5 bolts in the process

So after getting averything bolted back on I took it out for a warm up and then got on the boost and it is once again boosting upto and holding 1.2bar. :D

I still have it in TTC mode and the engine is not developing as much power as what it should be. The Blitz boost controller chassis map and power curves show only 320ish bhp is being developed.

And it feels very sluggish above 4000rpm....so going to be changing it back to stock sequential mode when I get chance.

I'm guessing the reduced power is down to the ECU not being able to map the fuel-air mixture correctly for TTC? Or it maybe a setting on the boost controller...thinking it is still sequential or something?

But anyway, the only positive thing about TTC I've been able to notice so far is the sound of the exhaust ;)

Just want to say thanks again for the help suggested on this thread. Hopefully after switching the hoses and the VSVs back out of TTC mode everything will be back to normal(ish).

Glad your getting to the bottom of the issue. The ECU can take a little while to get used to TTC (from what i have read). I would put it back to stock regardless as if you want to run TTC its better to hardwire it.

Yesterday I got the big crack welded (oo err), and they did a good job on it by placing two layers of weld along the total length of the side that had blow apart.

(Took it to a local engineering company)

But after another pressure test it has shown up that there is a further small hole that has developed around one of the welded mounting holes and also a small hair-line crack around another shaped edge !

Again these are easily sorted out by further spot welding etc. BUT my impression of the quality of the RadTec SMIC has been severly dented.

All the areas of failures on my particular one have been where existing welding seems to have weakened the aluminium.

And I'm guessing the constant pressure changes within the SMIC have easily stressed out these weak areas and caused failure points....not one but at least three !!

Maybe mine is a one off botch job, but maybe not. So I'd just like to voice my concern over the RadTec units for potential future buyers.
