Alloy damage and Garage policy

Hi all,

 

Does anyone know if garages have any policy or insurance if they damage your alloys in putting on new tyres..

 

Had some new ones fitted earlier this week. Just got car out the garage to clean it and almost cut my finger open on 2 metal bits sticking out off the rim. Defo looks like a machine has grazed the rim and folder back a sharp peice of metal. No damage or scrape to the tyre.. Car has not even been used since I got home that day.

 

Any info please?

Not sure if there is a policy on it, but I think you'll be lucky if they do anything about it now! On the same day, yes, no doubt they would have to refurb them for you! But now they will just say you've done it since the work! Always check your rims before you leave!!!

Yes, I will have to remember that. Lesson learned the hard way I guess.

Can split rims be refurbed? Its the nice shinny chrome bit which has been damaged.

Yes 3-piece wheels can be refurbished but it's specialist so therefore harder to find someone that can carry out the work.

 

Pristine wheels in Woburn Sands are near me and are meant to be the best in country. They charge around the £180 mark for refurb on a 3-piece wheel (about £55 for a standard alloy wheel). Costs are higher due to something to do with sealing the assembly.

You dont need to take your wheels apart to sort out the lip.

 

Just get some very fine sandpaper/wet n dry on the damaged area, rub it down with warm soapy water, and then use finer stuff, then get a polishing mop and bling it back up with some autosol or some fine metal polish.
