nevins
Right i'v now decided to change the colour on my mk4 but heard to many different things off too many people so thought i'd ask the clever people lol, Rsp supras i'v seen seem to have a pearlesent look to it, now thats fair enough but i was told today that the car is actually wearing a violet basecoat and thats where the colour change comes from, the code for the paint is 8L5 i believe, but is there any others things the bodyshop should know to get the best finish for example base coat and laquer or have i been told a load of rubish by someone. Any help would be much apprciated from all members.
johnny g
Just take it a place who know how to prep and prime properly so that the different materials have the same finish. RSP is the best

Jake
Having badly scuffed an RSP rear bumper, right through the paint, I can tell you it ain't got a violet basecoat.
Chiefgroover
OOHHH Jake, you been hanging it out too wide again lol? Nevins, here is some good advice for you. Buy decent paint, Sikkens is expensive and hard to beat in every way. Lessonal (mase by some company) has an excellent laquer also but stone chips easier. Have ALL trims removed around the glass area's, masking gives a crappy job. Good luck.
foodfreak
The correct 8L5 rsp paint has two types of pearl in the mix, that's where the unique colour comes from. Ask Gerald at G&N coachworks, they've done mine enough times & allways get it right Get it wrong..it just looks blue
Tricky-Ricky
The base coat colour will make a big difference to the effect/colour, but as for it being violet, i doubt it, most metallics or pearls require applying over a specified base colour to get the desired result, and they are usually, black, white, gold or silver. Pete
The paint mix is quite interesting, if you're really interested get down to Halfords for them to make you a small tub of it. The ingredients are quite interesting. I can remember lots of silver going into it.
mintedm
We use RM in work good all round finish, just trying to grasp what ur getting at?, once the code is typed into the scheme itll come up with a list of tints that make up said colour, if its got a pearl in the mix then the itll show up when the paints getting mixed so no need to worry
