Like Gav says, you need the right tools for the job. Compressors are readily available for hire. Machinemart seem to always have loads in the windows when i drive past at the one not a million miles from me.

If you're tyring to save money though, if might not be worth doing it yourself as you will have to get all the right tools. Might actually be cheaper to pay a sprayer, plus at least you get a decent job. You might end up having to pay for it to be re-done anyway!! :D

Yeah, ive thought about that, but hopefully, if i get on with it ok, i might be able to sort out the little niggles on the rest of my car.

i cant wait to get startd, it will give me something to do on the nights after work

cheers

Forgot to add...

Once you get the gun, compressor and associated bits, get down to the local scrappie and pick up some random panels, simply to play with before you do the actual work. Get used to the way the gun feels, how the various controls affect it, how to get the best paint mix, getting the pressure right. All little things that you really want to sort BEFORE doing it :) Also pop down to your local paint shop and buy some random colour in the same paint, they usually have some pre-mixed stuff that a customer didn't want and it is cheaper and great for practice.

Yeah, id thought about the spare panels, but not the paint.

so cheers again

Out of interest, how big are the cannisters? My little compressor is 50l, and it has to kick in a good few times doing a panel.

these are the cannisters i was tinkin off, probably just for the practice stages, then if all goes well, get a compressor.

cheers again

Hmmmm, I wouldn't even bother.... those are tiny 500ml bottles and for the cost?? It will get expensive seriously!

I paid just ove £300 for a Sip 150ltr compressor to do this job myself and its not doing too bad so far

Happy days, cheers for that.

I dont think im ganna spend that much yet, maybe like people have allready said, i may rent 1st, buy later.

Ill have to have a think

im now on exercise next week, so it will have to wait till after I get back in, teaching the crows how to dig defencive positions, then opperate out ofhem, and of course live in them. great fun.

I'd get a cheapo wolf 25 litre 2.5HP compressor (or equivalent) if I were you. People will probably disagree with me, but I found it more than adequate to spray the whole car (twice) - I was never left without enough air. Mine was about £50 (refurbished factory return) and still works fine.

ive not sprayed yet with it but im finding with the DA sander it runs out of air very quick and thats with a 150ltr tank and 3.5hp working on the DA which runs at 6cfm

I've only used it for spraying, inflating tyres, and briefly to take wheel nuts on and off. When spraying the gun was set at about 50psi using 9.5cfm. It was always powered on though with the motor running (i.e. it wasn't just running from the tank). I've read about this lots on other forums and much larger tanks with higher air flows are always recommended as the bare minimum, but I've still never quite figured it out... perhaps I'm committing some cardinal sins within the spraying world, but it seems to work for me.

Well, got a set of keys for a building this morning, it turned out to be a HAS (hardened aircraft shelter) which at 1st was fooking mega.

unfortunetly, no power, since im ganna do most of the work on a night after work ill need lighting, let alone the power for the compressor etc? so - bummer

ganna have a looksee at more buildings 2moz and see what i can get now.

either way, im staying up till after 12 to buy the kit needed so hopefully it will be here by friday.

if worst comes to worst, ill be stuck in my mates garage.
