Pressure Release Bearing

Hi Folks,

Well after a few opinions, some from you guys, it seems that the cause of the clicking from my Sup is the pressure release bearing. It's a clicky noise when I'm not accelerating, it disseapers when I press the clutch or accelerate.......

So the question is, Is it a big (read expensive) job to change this?

Would I be better going to an independent mechanic or main dealer.

I've been told that it wont harm the Sup to drive it like this, Right or Wrong?

It's damn annoying, especially driving in town with the click echoing back at ya:mad:

Any info appreciated...........

I had this problem on a BMW for three years and it was never anything more than annoying (it was annoying though.

It'll be a few hours under your car to split the transmission from the engine and replace the release bearing if you do it yourself, but provede you can get access it should be doable as a DIY job. If you can get your car over a pit or onto a ramp it will help.

The release bearing itself shouldn't be too pricey, but if you go to a main dealer the labour will be a killer: Upwards of £50 per hour.

Luckily realease bearings are much-of-a-muchness, so getting an independant garage to do it shouldn't cause them too much of a headache.

HTH.

Are you sure it's not the dual mass flywheel wearing? I am starting to see a lot of manual Supras with this problem.

Sorry for high jacking the thread here.

Chris, with your experience would it be possible for you to post up a quick list of things your noticing to fail on the MKIV Supra and at roughly what average milage..? I'm sure I'm not the only one who would be interested in this.

Cheers,

Matt:)

Bearing will feel rough when spun by hand, flywheel is harder to assess unless you see and "feel" a lot of them I'm afraid, or you have a new one to compare to. Either way you need to remove the gearbox. Careful, it's a heavy brute.
