Mechanical odometer

In my search for a supra i came across a 1997 n/a sz-r with a mechanical odometer.

My mate has a 1995 n/a and has a digital one. Which kinda irritates me:d

So i was wondering if it were possible to change the mechanical unit to a digital one?

Not quite sure why a mechanical one is better, it looks more old-fashioned and adds a few years on the car. But as i've found out mechanical odo's are only on facelifted non vvti supras, all vvti's have digital odo's again

So i hope that toyota didn't make a whole new system just for the one odd year, before vvti, for the mechanical odo and that it can be changed to digital. Another thing i don't get is the analog clock, but that's not such a problem;)
