_Shane_
hi guys, Went for a spin today in the supra, about 2 hours driving, no screwing the car or anything like that, most of journey was with cruise control on etc Then the engine management light came on and also the Traction control light came on at the exact same time, car kinda chugged for a second and then all was grand again. On way home just there, both lights came on again and car was missing and lost all power, then power came back again. Car was only serviced a month ago. Anyone have any idea on what could be the problem ? I started the car again a few mins ago and i didnt even have it backed out of my driveway and both lights were on and when i gave the car a little rev and the car was like missing again and no power

Ian C
Both lights coming on is normal "I've got something wrong with me please check the error codes" response from the ECU -Ian

Steve
Have a read of this thread http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=35920 It list the fault codes at the bottom.
_Shane_
Ian C said that i should reset the ecu first of all as i could have some old fault codes still stored etc, if i just disconnect the battery will that reset the ecu ? cheers shane
supramkivcork
That will reset the ecu alright, leave it disconnected for about 10 minutes shane.
Steve
Yes, disconnect the battery for 5-10 minutes, then reconnect it, go for a drive. If the faults are there it will store the codes which are causing the problems.

_Shane_
talking to bondango there and he brought up something interesting. I only got the car serviced just over a month ago and while doing that my mate who serviced it was on about the coil pack clips on the first coil pack at the front of the engine saying they were very lose etc had a fiddle around with them there, took them out and put them back in and took car for a quick 5 min spin, no engine management lights or trac light came on Car running as normal now, revving away, boost away as normal. Will still do another diagnosit check when it stops raining outside and will post up findings

_Shane_
it is indeed mate , just hope thats it solved now Ordering new clips for the coil packs tomor and will replace them some evening this week. Will take the car for a longer spin in the min and see how it is. Will do another diagnostics test then afterwards again after i reset the ecu
_Shane_
update Went out and reset the ecu, only got 1 error code then - 27 Took car for a spin, all driving well, boost away, no dash lights coming on etc etc then when i change gear or anytime i have the clutch in the revs died and car would cut out. Brought car home and ran diagnostics again - 27 , 42 came up this time round. One of these is the o2 sensor, would ye think this needs replacing or what way should i approach this situation. And finally just before i put car back into driveway i started it again and it pretty much fought to stay alive but after a minute or so the car started to idle as normal again. Any input is much appreciated
bondango
ECU will take a while to Relearn (usually a good 15mile run), as it will need to relearn its idle strategies etc etc 27 is sub oxygen sensor on the Uk, and shouldnt effect the car running as its used to monitor the cat. Is it actually connected as some people remove it when doing a decat on a UK?? 42 could be faulty speed sensor, but more than likely the buffer circuit, do a search on how to fix. _Shane_
both cats are out of the car also (sorry forgot to mention that) Will run out there and give it a start again and see how it is now brb lol ............. car running grand (didnt drive it) just started it up and perfect idle, rev away and she rests nicely again on idle, no cutting out Edited April 26, 2009 by _Shane_ (see edit history)
