Is my FCD broken?

RedSZ

Recommended Posts

Was driving home tonight and whilst accelerating hard (boost gauge said about 1.1bar) car hesitated, i came off throttle and red warning triangle lit up for 5 seconds. I've hit 1.2 bar many a time and never had any problems before.

This sounds like fuel cut to me BUT I have an FCD fitted. What are possible explanations apart from broken FCD?

Thanks

Your profile says you have a 94 TT. If the fuel pump hasn't ever been changed it's now 11 years old. Only needs a slight drop off in it's performance to, say, 90 or 80% and you're gonna be running lean and maybe causing problem.

Please note - I am not a techie, this is just what I've read :)

I can understand not enough fuel being pumped leading to detonation and that explaining the hesitancy/jerking (and making me think I should get a walbro ASAP) But would running lean explain the warning light coming on though? I can't get my head round why warning light came on if FCD is fitted?

Someone help me understand :violin:

No, it wouldn't

I can't understand that either, not if the light came on AFTER you backed off. I suppose it could even be something daft like brake fluid level warning light if the car jerked really hard but it's pretty unlikely.

Anyway, I'd be more inclined to worry about the hesitancy/jerking than the red light. Cure one and you'll probably never see the other again.

Thanks Jake, Aerotop Dave & Merckx.

I will get round to fitting a walbro. The hesistancy/jerk was very mild (I had a speed limiter on my old red sz and when it came on the whole car would shudder)and I can't see it being enough to affect the brake fluid warning. Could there be a loose wire from FCD?

BTW I took the car back up to 1.2 bar within 5 minutes of the incident with no problems.
