Supra-Brett
Just fitted my new O2 sensors to my 93 N/A and took it out for a spin. Best way i can describe the difference is that the car feels like its been on a diet. Its not loads faster but certainly has made a difference especially at lower revs. Whats the actual reason for the difference ? Are old O2 sensors blocked and hence the car overfuels ? Richie-R
Don't laugh but I did this on my vauaxhall combo and the difference disappered after around 10k (or I got used to it).Think it's down to the sensor providing better info to the engine managment system which runs more efficiantly. TNT
Would be interested in how much difference it makes to fuel consumption. Was it tricky to do?
Scott
I'm pretty sure that the leaner a car runs the more oxygen can get forced into the cylinder and the more bang you can get from each one. Of course this starts to get dangerous due to heat and pre-detonation. When your oxy sensors don't work properly, for safety, the ecu will stick in a bit more fuel to make it run a bit rich. This will result in a little less power and a lot more fuel usage. The worse the sensors get, the worse the running of the car gets. The better the sensors the more leaned out the fuel is and the more efficient the car runs.
TNT
Is there any recommended servicing interval for changing these. Only ask because car is running a but rich and MPG is rubbish but put that down to spirited driving
Scott
Take them out, stick them in a lemon overnight, fire them back in and see if there is a difference. If there is.... change them
