JustGav
There's one for the quote book. I hereby propose that in future any reference to doing a job properly, or working from correct and properly researched information is referred to as "swinging off Chris' nuts". Hahahahahahahaha, that is definitely a classic
Ian C
your right the oil gallys are in both, and both do have forged rods. I did a little research of my own, and found a puplication from SNIP Of which precisely one thing on that list is in the engine block. And that's the oil squirters. Which I believe we covered No-one knows everything, everyone gets stuff wrong, dealing with it gracefully is the key -Ian
Terminator
Just to add a further relevant technical point to add to the differences; the GTE makes a wooshing noise too. Seriously bolt on differences are irrelevant, it is the block and head that are important. If you are going to make half decent reliable power the cost of a GTE block and head are peanuts compared with the rest that is required. Unless you can do it yourself, I would have thought the cost of stripping an engine, shipping it to have the squirters tapped in to the oil way in the GE block, would negate the difference in price between a second hand the GTE and GE. Brand new GTE short blocks are very reasonably priced anyway built the way Toyota intended. Not swinging off Chris's nuts, either. I thought the crank rods and pistons of both GE and GTE were cast and it was the 1JZ that had forged internals. I was thinking if you had something let go on your already-built car, there is an option to get an NA short motor for like £200 and swap the pistons. Oil squirters would complicate matters I guess but still - £200 for block, crank, and rods...
