NeoFuture
Is this recession fueled by the media, i wish they would STFU and let us get on with trading, im extremely fortunate (touches wood) my industry is booming because of the down turn and i actually have too much work, which will cover for for about 10 months. i spose my question is how has the downturn effected you and how do you see your ways out, im very very lucky and very thankfull im actually looking for more staff. it would seem the media says "x" and "x" happens, i wish they would just leave it alone so the whole nation would stop panicing, start to trade again and all get back on an even keel (yeah i know its not that simple) but the media plays a BIG part in causing havok in peoples interpration of how bad things are

NeoFuture
i dont know why but people seem to want to spend on new web stuff (what i do) and SEO (also what i do) and reinvest in there internal systems (also what i do) instead of buying big software thats contracted or spend a fortune on marketing platforms, i spose right now the web is cheap :S i dunno, really hard to understand
dangerous brain
I also am making more money than I have ever made. Its mental really. I'm not complaining really but its gonna end some day. I do agree that the media hype is soo not helping 3 things. Our exchange rate, our inflation rate, and our overall consumer confidence

dangerous brain
I work in the defence sector fixing and preparing helicopters for the war zones we are in.. If they could get 24/7 out of me they'd do it. 20 years of no one in the industry training anyone, and the traditional source of manpower in this industry being RAF trained, the cessation of the cold war and the associated decline in forces has resulted in a real void of trained and qualified personnel in my field. Not just that other engineering industry sectors are offering incentives to move their way as they haven't been training either.
NeoFuture
i wanted to be an aircraft engineer in the RAF but i failed due to dyslexia 2 years as a cadet in the ATC then it was dispanded cause of the gulf war (i was at 2030 squadron) we were based at an army base in brum so it was seen as a target went on to apply to the RAF but failed sad times
DODGYDODDS
The media does fuel it to an extent, but our troubles stem froma couple of areas, 1- the federval reserve in america, printing endless dollars out of thin air, as the dollar is the world reserve currency many nations hold stock in that said unit, hence everyone is in the same boat as we all hold assets in dollars. 2- the leverging of debt and derivitives have created a massive finacial black hole, last bloomberg figure was 1.5 quadrillion, of toxic paper, which isnt talked about on mainstream media by the gatekeeping economic experts. Add to that the crazy bailouts accross the world, spending our tax money, and the fiscal studies institute comming out today saying it will take til 2032 for our national debt to be reduced to 40% Alot of hard times and cutbacks ahead. Just watch for oil to increase largely hrough speculation and the worst commoditie to be speculated on which is food, And predictions are going round ( i'll use america as an e.g) that bread in the not so distant future could cost $6 a loaf. Sorry for my long winded reply
imi
THIS http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8015704.stm AND THIS http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8010785.stm The recession is real, however there are winners and losers in every situation. Like said in the above post, we have cultivated a humungous amount of debt for an entire generation to pay off......so fairly dismal years ahead. dangerous brain
You can get into the aircraft industry by other means than the RAF chap. To be fair though dyslexia would be a proper sh*tter as you have to read through tonnes of stuff even to do the most basic task. Qinetiq the firm I work for are taking on apprentices but we are a bit far from you.
Lbm
Why don't Sky News and / or the BBC News channels just have a real time debt counter on the screen. Then we can tune in every day and feel even more depressed as the numbers mount up, every second. So yes. I agree many things are media driven and The Recession is also all part of their agenda. imi
Here is a latest post on our GDP numbers: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8015704.stm With unemployment numbers hitting the roof, it is a bad time for those that are out of employment. For those that are still in employment, not much has changed massively (if anything, our mortgages have halved)

tbourner
The recession's hitting our company now, they're planning on moving my department to Malaysia, so we'll all be out of a job in a few months. May have to sell the house if that happens - at a massive loss!
