jhh1987
What's everyone's opinion on auto trans Supra? Is it frowned upon, not being a 6-speed?
jhh1987
i personally have an auto, part of me feel bad it isn't a 6-speed or

jhh1987
I've heard the auto on the Supra is one of the best, and auto really is more convenient.

heckler
I have driven both, but prefer the manual box.
jhh1987
Does having an auto trans hinder the tuning potential of the car a lot?
Ian R
I have driven both, but prefer the manual box. I own both. The 6 speed is much more involving but with rps carbon carbon triple plate can be an arse to drive in traffic. The auto is nice and relaxing and prefer for town driving. When it comes to spirited driving the 6 speed every time

Im very very happy with mine, and I came out of an 2000 Mercedes AMG C43 Tip-Tronic. Not disappointed in any way, more surprised than anything at how good it actually in comparison. I drove a six speed before buying mine found it exciting, but could imagine it to be tiresome to live with everyday.

A tip-tronic is just an auto box with buttons and wouldn't handle my power output
pistonbroke
I loved my auto TT. Now have a 6spTT with a 6 puck clutch which is a mother to drive in traffic. It's being replaced with a stock one tomorrow so I'm hoping it will improve the driveability somewhat. Have to say the auto in the supra is one of the best auto's I've ever driven. Same can be said for the 6sp though with regard to how smoothly it engages gear even after 80k.

I thought the steptronic on my fathers bmw 840sport was good untill I picked up my supra. The supra's auto changes faster and always seems to know what gear you want and the ratios seem very well suited. My only gripe with it really is its propensity to hold 2nd for a touch to long when your driving it easy.

And the transition into third isn't always smooth if the car is not warmed up.
