Bit on the expensive side, but very nice!! Slight wide angle with the 16mm and a decent but not too big zoom. Only downside is that its bloody heavy

Looks it.

Must admit, having a slight wide angle in a zoom is exceptional. Look forward to seeing some of the work mate. :)

One day I'll get back into this. Taught myself some stuff back in the day of film SLR's. Just entry level, but I enjoyed it. I feel as if I'm missing out now what with the compacts. :(

the kit available today, especially if you just starting out, is brilliant. You can take so many pictures at for so little money. Where as you would have had to develop x amount of pics then find out half are blurred, etc...

I never thought I would enjoy it as much as I do, enough to actually want to make a career change to photography :)

EDIT - have a look at the Hampton Court pics, they were taken with the 16-85

Shamelessly nicked Graham, but I love these. Colours are fantastic. Not a bad eye either. :D I know how long it takes to get "into" the mood to look around for good aspects etc.

Might look around for some deals later in the year.

I'm a fan of Canon but they don't have this lens. AV Forums pooh poohed it as not being fast enough. They came over as extremely snobby. I think the results above speak for the quality.

What is th VR bit?

Normally takes me about 5 - 10 minutes of shooting to actually get into it. Canon has a very good lens line-up, depending on what you like. They have IMHO have the best macro lens on the market! Very nearly switched to canon for this :eyebrows:

VR = vibration reduction, its just Nikons version of image stabilization... very good for low light, as you can go 2 - 3 stops lower before needing a tripod. Is a good forum.

Bookmarked and link copied, thanks Graham. :)

I'd be using the wide more than macro I reckon. I see you like the macro shots though. :)

I also like wide angle stuff, did some shots with a TVR in Gatwick with the 16mm, which looked pretty cool...

Really like the macro stuff.

Might have someone from work interested in the 70-300. Will get back to you when I know more.

POTN is a good forum from the Canon side of things, been reading up on a lot of things.

Do have a few other forums, etc., but I won't derail this thread further! Maybe a thread in off-topic somewhere to discuss camera stuff?

OK then...

Ken Rockwell

Couple of reviews plus a few pages of hints and tips. Worth a quick scan over at any rate.

SLR Gear

Camera, lens and accessory reviews covering most brands. Seems to be a bit more grounded than the 'pro-bias' of Digital Picture.

Few others but am at work so can't check history/bookmarks currently. Certainly the POTN site is my favourite so far, loads of information and a friendly bunch. They even have a 'newbie friendly' rule which I thought was quite good. Canon bias though.
