Don't get me wrong, I'm a firm believer in legalisation (or at least de-criminalisation) and I think the Government's missing a trick on the potential income from taxation/duty on it.

Thats the thing the governments cant control it.

The cant control how it comes into the country and people growing their own which they do now.

If the governments could control import/export and the growth of it, it would be legal and they would put a sh*t load of tax on it

There is a bit of difference between "hemp" and "cannabis", same plant species, however traditional hemp has no physco-active properties, and has been used in MANY products and it isn't illegal. You can even buy hemp products from The Body Shop.

Tis true. :)

They could though, with a long term strategy. If they were to produce good quality 'official' gear and undercut the prices of home-grown and imported stuff then eventually they'd squeeze this out of the market. Small increases in duty each year after that would start making them a fortune.

edit, another good watch is cheech and chong's up in smoke :)

If they did legalise it everyone would stay at home giggling at Coronation Street or whatever, instead of wasting loads of Police time binge drinking in the streets.... but then they would grow their own, and the Government would lose the tax they get from alcohol.. therefore : tell people it's really bad for you, and hope they don't do it.

Where's my VW Camper van and tin foil hat?

It's obviously illegal because it can't be taxed. There's never been even one death directly caused by smoking marijuana. It's completely impossible to overdose. The Dutch have got it right IMO, but unfortunately other countries can't take their lead.

where the oil companies control everything, .

They might not control everything, but they certainly have a lot of control and influence that is far reaching

since the smoking ban across europe, many coffee shops in the dam have closed down, and the restrictions have grown. not like it was there a few yrs ago,,,,,,,,,,,,,, so im told of course :D

You can't put tobacco in you're joints now.

They say that, but I was there the beginning of March and most places don't care at all. One or two cafés had a sign up saying no tobacco and 1 had an upstairs area where there was no tobacco but a downstairs where you could have tobacco.

But then again in Amsterdam no-one really seems to care about anything.

Oh and most places now have 'tobacco substitute' which is very peculiar stuff. Tastes like shit.

I may as well kill myself now! :D

It's better to burn out, than fade away! ;)

Sort of on the same topic, Mr Nice is due out sometime soon, with Rhys Evans as Howard Marks, looking forward to going to see that (with a big pick and mix, popcorn, nachos and coke...) If you've not read the book Benkei, I'd recommend it highly, it's an awesome read. His other book (dope stories) is very interesting too.

Thanks jim, I'll get myself a copy :D

I didn't go before the ban so I cant compare it but the coffee shops are aplenty and people were still putting tabacco in the joints - you have to smoke in certain areas in pubs though, not sure if it was like that before?

Thought that was pot-pourri

Stop being a lightweight and roll a blunt!!:p

:D yeah it does look like it. Only tried it once and didn't try it again!

Trip to the Heineken factory was the highlight of the trip. Although we did go there at about 11.30am and it went downhill from there onwards..

No it wasn't like that before. It doesn't really seem to make that much difference around there though. No one seems to enforce it at all

Yeah, I was there a couple of months ago and didn't notice any major difference to the last 10 years I've been working there. The smoking areas are a bit more defined (signs, and the owners are a bit clearer on what you can and can't do), but no real changes other than that. Maybe I just go or get taken to different places than the tourists :search:
