Hi all, well got a bit of a problem with the Supe. Basically when I start the car it will idle at around 450-500rpm and it sounds as if the car is going to cut out, there is also a rattle ive been having under the car for around 2 weeks now but thinking its the heat shield, will that be also a possible cause of the low revs that have suddenly appeared? it was always at 700rpm idle but now its down at 450 and as I set off in traffic it will sometimes judder as if its going to stall :( any ideas? tried search but cant find anything for an auto on this. O and it goes up when I put the AC on but dont want to keep putting that on everytime i hit traffic.

EDIT: Also the positive on the battery seems to have a slight build up of battery acid (when it goes white) but cleaned that off and seems fine now but still the revs are low

My car started doing that this week, very embarrasing when sitting at traffic lights and the car starts idling very low and about to cut out. I pulled the connector of the idle control valve with the intention of cleaning the valve assembly but I found oily cr@p in the terminals. I sprayed switch cleaner/isopropyl alcohol into it and airlined it out, problem has not come back...yet.

I think this is a minor Supra gremlin. Both Supras I've had have done this on totally random occasions. I wouldnt worry about it too much. Your rattle will be a heatshield.

If the car is idling rough all the time, then I think you might have a more serious problem.

UPDATE:

I have rung my uncle who works on high performance cars and he is going to service it for me and hopefully that will cure it, ill also tell him to clean out the ISCV cheers again boys. Dont no if it helps aswell but just noticed today that when stopping in traffic i will roll it down to around 5mph and it will be at around 700rpm then i stop and the speedo suddenly drops from 3-5mph to 0mph instantly and then the revs drop to 500 :( does that sound about right for the ISCV?

I think my car is doing this too, it idles at about 400/500rpm, and the steering wheel shakes slightly and the engine note goes really low, although it doesnt sound like its going to stall, sounds pretty stable.

What is the normal idling rmp on a n/a manual when the engine is warmed up?

Cheers,

Ash.
