Mike
So me and a few mates (6 in all) are going to Krakow for the weekend soon. We've been organised enough to book our flights, but that's basically it. One of the group has taken it upon himself (kindly) to book our digs while we're over there.. and he seems to have a booked a hostel. Now I'm not snobby, but I do like my home comforts but for the sake of three days I'll deal with a bunk bed(!) and five other smelly blokes in the room Half of the group are early 30's and the other half are early 20's - being that I've never done the hostel thing.. are people going to think we're a little old to be staying there? We could all easily afford a nice hotel there, so I have no idea why he's done this. I think he's reliving his Army days!? Anyone else got any experience of hostels genrally, or hostels in Krakow/Poland? anyone know any nice hotels there in case it's grim? I went there a few years back.. and I remember it being uber-cheap.. is it still?

Supranature
My nephew teaches out there. Because of the surge in tourism in recent years, the prices in Krakow have "aligned" with the rest of Europe. Dont get me wrong, its still cheaper than here, but compared to where my nephew lives its extortionate. A word of warning, the Police have zero tolerance to pissed-up Brits.............. Its a great place, the women are beautiful. enjoy
Wez
Krakow is great fun and very cheap. See if you can get out and do the firing range, we got to fire PM84 9mm assault rifles, AK47, pump action, magnum, glock 9mm etc, very good day out indeed. Mike
Good luck Mike No doubt I'll have Takashi Miike paying a million quid to put a bullet in my head on the first night
Lbm
No doubt I'll have Takashi Miike paying a million quid to put a bullet in my head on the first night Yeah, I was thinking more the mix of 20 somethings and 30 somethings - in a foreign country - all together. Mind you, in Le Mans last year, I went for 5 days with, a couple of 60, 40, 30 and 20 year olds - and I have to say, we all hated each other - especially the nippers. Actually, it was very good indeed
Benyon
He has looked on an english search engine and can only find a few Hotels which he thinks are quite expensive, He has looked on a polish search engine and can find loads ranging from £8-£50 a night, I read you are going around the 14th may, he is gonna send me some links for you now. If you have the full right infomation he said he can book it for you. If you tell me what you want to do. Anyways hang on for some hotel links and see what you think. P.S. I have typed all this really fast as im in work so excuse the grammer. Ok My friend says most of the hostels look like hotels apart from the really cheap one's. You might want to look at the hostel you're booked in with because Ive been looking at some which look nice and more hotel like. Here is a link its in polish thou but he recommends somewhere like this place its near most pubs/clubs but just out of the city centre so its not as expensive. If you click on the tabs above the pics you can find a map where the hotel is. http://www.rezerwuje.pl/?id=prezentacja&placeid=b45554&bookingonline=1&roomid=4555410_374731_0&newb=1&bid=45554&type=1&loc=-1&citySelect=2&checkInDate=2009-05-14&departureDate=2009-05-16&numOfNightsSelect=2¤cySelect=1&numOfRoomsSelect=1&numOfAdultsSelect=2&numOfBedsSelect=2&smoking=2&bookingtype=hotel&action=search¤t_lang=polish

Konrad
If you have a look around you can find few B&B for around 25/30 pounds per night. Krakow is VERY sensitive about drunk Britons, seem few worked hard to get that opinion Beautiful place, do not waste your time to shoot weapons around, Krakow is on UNESCO heritage list, there is a lot of galleries, theaters, restaurants, museums. 35 miles away you have Auschwitz concentration camp, 60 miles south Zakopane (mountain tourist district). Enjoy
Benyon
What does he think of Hotel Alef? (from Wes's link) Its in a pretty good area, Depend's on what you want im assuming beer/clubs It is a stag do you're on isn't it? He considers that Alef abit expensive but if you dont mind paying the 150pr a night then it should be a good place. Check the hostel where you're going because it might be a hotel type hostel instead of a room with 20+ strangers.

I know  It's not a gayness hostal is it?! not that there is anything wrong with that
Benyon
It's not a gayness hostal is it?! not that there is anything wrong with that Ah I dont want to spoil the surprise for you, Its like going on a treasure hunt to find the chocolate starfish. From what my friend say's you will be best staying around the border of the city center rather than in the center. He says prices are not far from english prices as they have recently had to match the rest of europe's prices. Like you a few of my friends wanted to do something out of the yellow err I mean blue, this was around 7pm on a friday one night and they decided to go amsterdam on the train so they went had a smoke, drink & Ogal then come back, They where back saturday late night. I wish I had gone with them but I thought they are gonna end up in the wrong country or something haha.
