AlexJames
Hey peeps, Need a little bit of help, I have looked through a few other threads but not found much out just yet. Ok, so I turn her on fine, she sits and idles over fine for about 10 mins... After that the standard temp needle rockets up, the HKS one gives a more accurate reading I think, but that sits around 10 or 11... At first I thought the standard temp gauge was faulty because I moved the car forward and the needle dropped to mid way, then slowly rose up again, then when I turn her off... the radiator makes an odd half arsed horn noise lol After taking her out for a little drive to get some cold air running through the engine, the temp needle dropped to half way again, then shot back up... as I pulled into the drive, the overflow bottle started to steam a little and make that horn noise... Now im totally confused :S Any ideas?

AlexJames
Radiator cap? 0.9 bar, brand new, with a brand new radiator. are you all bled properly? Bled properley? can you explain this for me?
stevie_b
Bled properley? can you explain this for me? Have you bled the cooling system to get the air out of it? Airlocks in the system can cause rapid overheating.

Ahh, thats probably the problem... would make alot of sense... is this where I need to make the rad cap the highest point in the cooling system and squeeze the pipes at the bottom to get the air locks out? Jellybean
I had a similar issue after I flushed the Rad, just stick the front wheels on a speed bump or raised area and take the rad Cap off (Careful if its still hot better waiting till she cools), just watch the air locks bubble away (add water till she stops to bubble), all should be cured. Scott
Remember to let the car get up to temperature. You won't be able to fill the system properly until the thermostat is open. Start the car up and take it for a run till the temp gauge STARTS to go up. Get it back and do as suggested above, in an incline or up a bump or something. Carefully take the rad cap off and keep the engine running so that the coolant keeps getting warmer to allow the thermostat to open. At first it may spew out a bit of coolant, this is because the airlock is expanding with the heat, don't worry about this at the moment, just top it up when you can. Try squeezing the heater matrix pipes at the back of the engine also to pull through coolant. Its not a fun job, it takes a bit of time and patience but its straight forward enough

Whip the top rad hose off at the rad end and fill the system through there, then run it up with the heaters on revving gently until up to temp and job done;) TT's are alot easier to bleed than NA's, but i use same technique for both
AlexJames
Its not a fun job, it takes a bit of time and patience but its straight forward enough You wernt joking were ya! Thats one messy job but its totally worked! I was amazed at the amount of air that it held! After I managed to get the cap off... well actually it came off at about 100mph once it was pressurised!! scared the life outta me! But its all done now Thanks for your help guys! Once again the subscription is worth it

Once again the subscription is worth it Glad its sorted, its not the easiest method but its less hassle as you don't need to worry about coolant spewing everywhere if you take the pipes off. Getting them back on under pressure can be more trouble than its worth. Every couple of days check your coolant levels. There will still be the odd bit of air in the system no doubt. Just top it up keeping an eye on it and the expansion tank carefully
