Cut in power under acceleration TT 6-sp.

Hi

Was out trying a supra TT 6-speed(possible purchase) today with following mods:

J-spec model 1994

3.5" rsr exhaust

New external fuel pump.

ARC intercooler

Broken electronic boostcontroller(not used)

Bee-R rev limiter box(Dont know this and neither did the seller)

In short is a TT with a BPU+ kit thats running stock boost.

The car was running fine, engine sounds really good. No smoke and so on.

Boost was constant 0.6 bar under full acc.

Now for the problem:

"Under full acc in 2.gear revlimit was at 6.000 rpm."

"Under full acc in 3. gear. There was a short power cut 1 or 2 times after 4000-4300 rpm."

Dont know if there is a Greddy BCC or similar.(seller did not know either)

But I thinking that is a fuel problem or electronic issue.

I getting the car to a specialist, but before that I wanted to know if anyone knew what it might be?

If it is just a fuel or electronic problem caused by one those "boxes" then no problem.

But if it is an engineproblem ect then thats not so good..:)

Regards

Kasper

When you say power cut, did the car seem to stutter before it really took off?

Did you just plant it or did you gradually press the accelerator down?

I've found that you can't just floor the tt6 you have to go easy on the accelerator otherwise it can do that sometimes.

6000 seems low for the limiter unless it's because of the BeeR.

Also, .6 bar seems low for standard boost.

I agree with Mikey though, I would keep looking as some of this sounds a bit iffy.

Well something in between this: Did you just plant it or did you gradually press the accelerator down?.

Funny thing is that in 2.gear no powercuts or anything like that.

The rest of the car is in close to mint condition...

The seller seems to know very little about cars. Well I will have him take the car to a well known specialist in supras in sweden and have him find the reason for this.

But yes ofcause still looking for that perfect "car"

I had a problem very similar to this the other day. The car drove fine and idle's fine but under heavy acceleration it felt like a little hesitation sometimes in the high revs (and high boost). It never happened in the 3years I have had the car and I thought 'that feels a little wrong' so I put my foot down again, same thing. I tried it again to see if I could figure out what boost and revs it was happening at and then a giant POP! my arse clenched and I thought 'oop's somethings just broke' as my boost gauge would only read to 0psi and no more and all power was gone. I thought the turbos had packed there blades and went to the big shiney housing in the sky but after a little bit of investigation it turned out one of the intercooler hoses had poped off. I put it back together and took it for a spin and all was good. No more hesitation and back to full strength

:)

Anyway, sorry for the rant (especially in Tech :hide: ) but from what I had experienced it could be that an intercooler hose may not be tight enough and is alowing air to sometimes escape at high boost levels giving a fluctuation in boost and power. Go round the intercooler pipework and make sure everything is pushed home and tight. It's free to do but most other things will cost (replacing plugs ect)

The writing in the add is all swedish, so you wont understand it anyways..:)

But I looked at another one today, which I am really hooked on. Perfect condition. Lots of $$$ spent, Engine pulls great, BPU+ kit ect. Fresh black paint with multiple cleancoats. Facelifted.

So the problem with the "first" one will be someelses...

But thanks all for the help. Great forum this.

I will post some pics of the car, when I get it. It looks really mean..:)

No I am sure of that...

Have tried lots of TT supras now, and nothing like this before.

sure its not just the switch between the 2 turbo's? you would notice it more as you go up the gears because it revs slower. just a thought really.

It sounds like it could be fuel cut, was it quite a violent cut in power?

0.6 bar boost is far too low max boost, stock is 0.76 and at BPU you should be seeing 1-1.2 bar

As suggest above, it's best to get the ECU panel opff and see what's there, in particular a fuel cut defeder (aka FCD or BCC)

Agree with Wez that there is something odd about it as an external pump (swirl pot?) and Bee R are not normal for a BPU car.

Yes it was quite strong cut of power, but it lasted 0.5 sek..

Well as mentioned above, I will not for this car. Have found a better one.
