SUPRALOOPY
I have a zanussi zx97/5si. My problem is the alarm keeps going off and the fridge part is not getting cold enough. I have defrosted it incase of a freezup and the circulation fan seems to be working. My questions are 1. does the fan have more than one speed? 2. As this is a intelli air flow system and the freezer is working fine and the fridge takes the cold air and circulates it around the fidge part. WTF could be wrong with it? It has a capillary thermostat in the fridge part and that works ok, the fan comes on when the door is shut. I'm stumped now and don't want to buy a new fridge freezer as this one cost a few quid and is only 3 years old. Any help would be nice. Thanks Dave:(
tooquicktostop
Stop taking the ice cream out and you should be fine
SUPRALOOPY
I now have nothing in it and we are buying food day by day (very expensive)
SUPRALOOPY
Bump. If you defrost it and leave it for two days its fine for a while, then ice starts to form on the "condensor?"well the bit that gets cold in the freezer part of the unit and it gets slowly worse and the fridge part stops getting cold, Then the bloody alarm starts going off again. Is there anybody who does this for a living on here want some private work?
DamanC
There is a vent from freezer to fridge (where the fridge gets its cold feed) check its not blocked. Make it think to doors are shut, does it open? if it doesn't its probably one of the controller boards

I think its something to do with the defrost cycle and the messages that is getting. I just need someone who does this sort of thing to diagnose it for me before I start wasting money on parts I don't need, or get some muppet round I can't trust and cost me a fortune. erol_h
do you mean the evaporator in the freezer is freezing up and stopping the air flow passing through it. If so then its not going into defrost or the heating element could be gone. When you switch it off and it all melts and its working fine do you notice the compressor stopping? erol_h
Also make sure its not in fast freeze mode as this just bypasses the thermostat and could cause it to freeze up. If you can from inside the freezer open up the back panel where the evaporator is and check if there is a heating element. It should either be passing through the evaporator or under and put it into defrost and see if its heating up. You might need the manual to see if you can manually put it into defrost. Yes thats the kidddy:) As for the compressor I'll have to check that out. But after you manually defrost it its fine for about 3 weeks but gets gradually worse. Any idea where I could get one? I have tried the interweb and asked in a few repair shops but had no luck:( Thanks for you help Erol. erol_h
Your best bet would be to go direct to zanussi even though they will shaft you on the price, but make sure its the element first im sure they should have a technical team that could help you over the phone. It also might be the curcuit board which isnt giving out the power or even letting it go into defrost.
stevie_b
A little thread resurrection for you all: I have a very similar problem to the one that Dave described. I've got a Candy CPC240FFK frost-free fridge freezer, whose freezer compartment works fine (-20C) but the fridge doesn't get cold enough. Without me putting freezer blocks in the firgde every 24 hours, the fridge temperature goes up to around 10 or 12C. The unit only has a single compressor which you can hear starting and stopping periodically as normal. Someone advised me that it might be the compressor, but seeing as it cools the freezer down to the correct temperature, I don't see how that could be the case. I've tried defrosting the freezer but that didn't help. I've swapped the electronic control board but that didn't help. A thin layer of frost does form on the inside back wall of the fridge which I haven't noticed until recently. Any ideas?
stevie_b
Apologies for the short-period bump, but I'd be grateful for any ideas that anyone has. Ideally I'd defrost the whole thing thoroughly over a period of a day or so to see if that makes a difference, but I've got nowhere to put the frozen food whilst that takes place (and there's quite a lot of it). Chris Wilson
Reading threads like this makes me so glad I have never spent more than 45 quid on a fridge freezer in my life
stevie_b
£45? How did you manage that. Second-hand I guess. Candy are at the budget end of the market, but that's super-cheap.
Chris Wilson
Second hand, a quick steam clean and throwaway if they go wrong. The tumble dryer came from the tip, it was brand new, still with makers labels stuck on it. I thought it would have some horrendous problem, but took a chance, bunged the guy there a fiver and all it needed was a fuse in the plug I might spend on fancy race cars, but I sure as hell scrimp on everything else
