upgrading stock turbos

can you upgrade the stock turbos NOT HYBRID!

but actually put a better set of turbos on keeping the sequential

system and manifold.

NOT A SET OF UK TURBOS which would still have older technology

dont realy want to go single and turbos may be on the way out just seeing what options i have ahead.

i just hear so many bad things about them saying there not worth it.

so going to toyota for a new set of turbos is the way forward for a new turbos

dont rule out hybrids if you want more power, just find someone who knows how to build them....for ultra reliability though get new stockers and keep it BPU

so theres not another bolt on turbo that would fit the supra twin turbo set up.sounds like there would be a market for that?

i do have a set of the stock twins in my shed but first turbo has hair line crack in the turbine housing dont know if anything can be done to repair or not?

There's no off the shelf kit I'm aware of thats available now, however there are some options available to replace the turbo's themselves. It's not been done here to my knowledge, but there are one or two cars in the US that use a pair of small garrett turbo's in place of the stockers. Not an easy or cheap job to do, I expect it'd be more cost effective (and better bang for buck) going for a single conversion. Everything would need to be replaced anyway (injectors, ECU, half the turbo system, wastegate, the list goes on)

There is a big thread on Supraforums about upgrade turbos using the stock seq system.

Its available for us spec supras.

I don't think its a straight swap but could be an avenue to explore (take hp figures with a big pinch of salt) :

Depends on what levels of boost they are going to run. If it was looking at about 1.4 to 1.5 bar on hybrids then yes you would need the injectors replacing with larger cc/min and the fuel map/ ignition maps changing.

I suppose hybrid turbo's are frowned on due to the quality of work etc that can go into them depending on who is doing them, plus the cost of having someone reputable hybridise stockers is roughly £700 per turbo. For that price you would get the steel turbine set up from the USDM/Euro and possibly a slightly bigger compressor (correct me if i am wrong).

I originally looked into seeing if i could use the GT2860 CHRA and basically rebuilding the stock system on top of it, but its proved to be a logistical nightmare. So as yet i have not found anything that will basically slot into the gap left by removing the stock CHRAs.

Stock turbos would also be normal journals and not ball bearing.

Its not actually that hard to strip and rebuild the stock turbos, but on rebuild it will require balancing which will be the stumbling block for virtually everyone unless you are fortunate enough to have access to a balancing machine
