Quiet Exhaust Options

Why not have an extra silencer box or the exhaust current box modified for a larger size. I think Paul Whiffin did something similar recently.

Yeah I think a silencer added on the lower decat pipe in the position of where that cat normally is would work as there should be suitable space under the car there?

I think cost wise this option would be cheaper than the switch to Nur Spec RX and hopefully won't be any more restrictive.

 They are exceptionally well built pieces of kit and well fitting compared to the majority of other (more chavvy) exhausts out there! :p

Well built maybe, but the looks, they make the baby jesus cry!!!

Anything off the shelf available for the Supra? :search:

You're testing my memory now but I'm sure Nic posted up - probably 3 years or more ago - about some (TRD? HKS?) peice of kit that did just this. I thought it was Supra specific but that bit might be bobbins.

I should mention that the RX is slightly restrictive as I will only boost to 0.9bar but when the previous owner had a different exhaust it boost to 1.2bar and needed a restrictor ring. I'm not sure if Lbm or anyone else has found the same?

I must check this, although I have an EBC anyway.

TDR, I doubt you'll p!ss off your neighbours/office colleagues with idle or low speed noise from a double decat Supe with an RX.

I have my lock up in a residential area, and I'm very mindful about noise when coming home late at night. But the RX poses no problems. IMHO the Supe/RX combo just purrs nicely at low speeds :)

The Apexi ECV looks like it'd have to be the weld in version to get a decent diameter. If I wanted to go full throttle with low noise (track days etc.) I think having the flap part closed would be really restrictive and cause high EGTs. That tail pipe thing looks worse than a bung so wouldn't go that way.

So I guess I wanna know how much I can get an RX for delivered? Blitz UK are looking for £591

I'm going to have a chat with my mate who does custom systems, im sure he's done one before...

I was thinking of a middle box like the pic ive done below (excuse my artistic skills on Paint :D)

image

The green arrows indicating the quieter flow through the muffler, and the red arrows bypassing the muffler. I doubt it it'll work on a High Power Supra due to lack of space and larger exhaust diameter :(

Its a shame there's no room to make an exhaust like there is on a new Jag XK - can't find any pics of it all in piece's.. But it works the same way as above but as part of the Backbox and it's Intergal

Ahhh what the heck, still to noise i think :p

Nice picture. ;)

You'd probably want the more direct-flow to be for the high power/noise route as it'll have minimum resistance (and usually therefore, maximum power).

The stock exhaust splits into two when it gets mid-way to the rear of the car, you could look into having one route being the loud path and the other contain the muffler.

Noise limits tend to be on tracks & other motorsport locations however, where you will want max power - and thus a muffler that will support that.

I think Golf R32's and Aston V8's have something similar too.

Ohh aye i did think about the split stock exhaust route, as i say, i'll have a word with my guy soon and see what he thinks. My pic was a quick refference, i wasn't going to have squared angle's :D

I'm still a bit  with the exhaust diamater's for high powered car's, and as you say, for optimum performance, ideally, needs to be less restrictive and as straight as possbile!!

It might be a thought for BPU or Stock power that needs a bit of noise

I'm told that, at least in theory, a reasonably free-flowing 3" system is more than enough until you get towards 800~1000bhp.
