Axle
No I haven’t creamed my pants... Yet. Anyone here have knowledge on the Megasquirt ECU? I have a Mercedes W126 SE which has had a 6.2 Litre V12 Engine installed, I have been advised I could extract much more power and response from if I switch from OEM set-up to the Megasquirt for example. I also have Motec in mind, but not too clued up on these other aftermarket ECU's. I will direct our ECU guru Ryan.G to this, as hoping he may be able to map it at some point should I take this route. Cheers.
JustGav
Ask Ian C, he calls it a maplin ECU They aren't bad units, make sure you pick the right variation for your project, as there has been a few.

Yeh that was my first thoughts on them. Budget ECU. But one guy who maps them swears by them. Either that or he swears at them? But hence, i thought i would seek the knowledge of those in the know. Any other recommendations other then Motec? Cheers.

Ryan.G
One word Mate --Solaris-- I cant fault it at all and cant find anything close to beat it in price for its reliability and functions. http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=171619

Ryan.G
Thanks for your input mate. Are you happy with mapping a V12? Not a problem chap although you might need a Solaris s8 depending on what other systems your engine has ie FBW, VVTI etc
JustGav
I know IanC and others will refer to this as a the maplin's ecu, however it appears now that a plug-n-play option MAY be available. http://diyautotune.com/diypnp/models.html http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/diypnp-nippon-denso-76pin-unassembled-kit-p-384.html
Neil-NA
MX5 guys rave about these ECU's for some reason.
Chris Wilson
I have seen some really nice, poky and reliable race engines running on Megasquirt. However, to me they are the equivalent of 1980's Linux. Quirky, interesting, cheap, but unless you are an electronics geek that loves to do things the hard way, I'd buy a more commercially marketed product. One for Ryan: Who is the head honcho at Solaris that also maps cars for a Subaru specialist? Did he really "invent" this ecu, or are they using poetic licence? Wez
Who is the head honcho at Solaris that also maps cars for a Subaru specialist? Did he really "invent" this ecu, or are they using poetic licence? You are talking about Pat Herborn who also maps for Scoobyclinic. Neither Pat or Syvecs/Solaris have ever claimed to have invented the ECU architechture, thats down to Mark Colby at Life Racing. He also wrote desk pro for Pectel Pat and Charlie approached Life and asked them to make the S6 utilising the existing architecture as it provided the best base possible, this has the added bonus that any features developed for Life's race customers also get shared into the Syvecs/Solaris ecu's.
