toyo rob
Just been told that i will need to change my cambelt tensioner and idler pulley, i think he said, apparently its got some bolt configuration that means that it has to be adjusted manually. is that the same on all soop's or is mine 'special'?? isn't it all hydraulic nowadays, or is it mainly hydraulic with slight adjustment by me needed as the blt gets older, only just changed it!! cheers Rob S
TLicense
The tensioner assembly for auto's and manual's are different. The auto has a spung loaded wheel type arrangement IIRC, but the manual has a more complexed mini-damper dype affair. Either way they aren't adjustable (I mean they are self adjusting! - Well again the manual assembly certainly is self adjusting, I'm pretty sure the auto is as well - but not 100%) The idle wheel hmmm, I don't know on this one, but at the end of the day it is just an idle wheel so wouldn't need any adjustment as that's all taken care of by the tensioner. normore1
If you just changed it why would you do it again? If I recall correctly from when I changed out my timing belt, the idler pully is separate from the tensioner. It is a spring loaded device and the only thing that should wear out is the bearings. The tensioner pushes on the idler wheel assembly and should not generally need replacing.

dude
Tensioner is hydraulic and the wheel will only need changing if the bearing has failled , perhaps he hasnt got a press and wants a new tensioner wiyth the little ring pull in it !!!! paul mac
the auto trans hydraulic tensioner has a tolerance limit, mine was out of tolerance so i changed it i think it was about £30-40, for that price i was happy to pay it for piece of mind

Tensioner 13540-46030 i need help here i think. cheers Rob S
paul mac
no idea what that is on the car with the bolt sticking out of the bottom it looks like a home made affair, is your car manual or auto cos the new one in the bag is for an auto, the bolt heads are 12mm on the tensioner i use a 1/4" drive socket on 2 long extension bars as the back bolt is hard to get at put your new one on then pull the pin (hand grenade stylee) job done
Lazarus
It looks to me like the existing tensioner on your car was a standard hydraulic tensioner like the new one that you've purchased, but at some point somebody "modified" it with a nut and bolt for manual adjustment for some reason.
