Al Massey
really why's that? Because you will damage them Have a read here http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=41927
bigbloodyturbo
really why's that? Your not supposed to gap any plug that has an iridium electrode, I think it's because the elctrode can be made a lot narrower with a iridium/platinum tip and therefore you risk damaging them. thereisnospoon
ah well any suggestions why the car seems differant?
bigbloodyturbo
Could be anything mate, bad plugs or a damaged ht lead. Try resetting your ecu and see it that makes a difference, it might be pulling timing on you for some reason.
thereisnospoon
ok was about 2 do that anyway thanks, i'll repost after a drive later
RobSheffield
Maybe its just cheap plugs, or plugs too cold or hot, or not tight enough, or placebo effect or any of these things
Homer
I'd go with Rob's suggestion here. Can you post the exact spec of the plug and the rating? They might just simply be the wrong ones for an NA.

thereisnospoon
Could it be the butterfly valve in the inlet, because the sound changes alot when booting it??
bigbloodyturbo
Could it be the butterfly valve in the inlet, because the sound changes alot when booting it?? It might be. I had a similar problem in my prelude which has a similar intake design to the na supra(two sets of runners, long for low rpm and short for high) and it turned out that a vacuum solenoid was causing the diaphram that operated the butterfly valve to not operate. That meant I was on the short runners all the time with less torque low down.
thereisnospoon
well i was just out opening and closing it by hand and there was a whoosing sound, where does the pipes lead?
bigbloodyturbo
well i was just out opening and closing it by hand and there was a whoosing sound, where does the pipes lead? They all lead to your intake. When your car gets to about 4k you should here a change in induction noise as the butterfly valve opens another set of intake runners. If your butterfly valve is not working you make be stuck with the runners open which will mean your engine feels lethargic at low rpm's as their is not enough velocity in the intake to promote proper cylinder filling ( I think:blink:) So I would go check and see if your problem happens at all rpms or just at different points. It was quite a common problem on preludes but I don't see it mentioned on here very often. You could also lift the bonnet and rev the engine and see if you can actually see the lever on the butterly valve operate.
Chris Wilson
Just go and buy the right plugs, you have had one drama / near miss.......
thereisnospoon
yes it is opening i just checked by watching it, the power seems 2 of been lost now at higher rpms and 3rd gear just feels rubbish???
