Silverstone Classic 2009

This is just a very tentative post to see if there would be any interest in a Club stand at the Silverstone Classic on July 24,25 & 26th.

If there is some interest I will pop another thread in the Events Section, take it up with the local Event Organiser (?) and Silverstone.

There is a big club attendance with about 60 clubs last year, obviously mostly classic clubs, but also some more modern eg MR2dc and MX5oc etc, so we may be able to get in.

I went last year and thought it was great. The first thing you notice is that you can walk anywhere, grandstands, pits, garages, talk to the race crews, chat to the drivers, poke the cars etc.

The second is how quiet it is, lots of people but absolutely masses of space.

I spent a couple of hours just wondering around the club stands & stalls before I settled down to watch the racing.

The racing is very exiting as some of these classic cars just weren’t built for throwing around Silverstone corners and watching them drift round on skinny tyres is frightening

It was also great seeing sponsors names / cars from the past that I'd almost forgotten, Camel, Elf, Benetton, JPS Lotus and the great Silk Cut Jags.

I went last year as well, the classic and the FIA GT (different event) are my top 2 fave events at Silverstone.

P.S. I'm the 'local' events organiser for Silverstone too, as it falls into the 'Midlands'. Doesn't mean much for these national events though. :)

Sorry, I wasn't sure which EO it would be.

As you have been before, what do you recon ? would it be suitable for a Club stand if there aws enough interest ?

I think it'd be a great event to have a club stand; I'd be surprised if we'll get 10 or so* cars to sign up in advance however.

* = My own suggestion for a minimum numberof cars to make up a 'club stand', especially for an event of that size. We'd want a decent showing I reckon.

Spot-on, exactly my thoughts.

The last thing we want is three or four cars there or sometimes none !

I'll give the thread a couple of weeks and a couple of bumps, see what happens.

Cheers mate.

Not trying to put a downer on it but,,,

I doubt you'll get anywhere near the paddock or pits for a club stand, there even cutting down on support trucks etc being in the paddock, we had to empty the truck last year and park it outside to make room for other teams.

Just been at the Estate where my sisters truck is kept as armed robbers have broken in in the early hours this morning, cut her curtain sides open and nicked all her tools along with breaking into another race transporter and tried to get a Grp A BMW out of it but didnt succeed, also ransacked a support caravan and a motorhome :(

2 helicopters and an armed responce team but they got away.

Not sure whats going to happen regards the classic meet now but hopefully we'll have the curtains repaired and blag some tools
