tooquicktostop
My fiance wants an upgrade from her Astra Auto 1.6 Envoy and has her eye on this black/blue E240 Merc in a local dealership, it is the full loaded avantgarde and is a lot of car for the money, on insection all was going well when I checked the oil filler cap for mayo and there was plenty, I highlighted this to the dealer and he called over the mechanic, now he told me the car has sat for 2 month being started on and off only and this has caused this? I had the car warmed up and it held temp ok, it sounded ok as well, the car is a 99 T reg with 90,000 miles, there was a fair bit of condensation from the exhaust I am not usually concerned when buying a car for myself and have been offered a full 12month engine/gearbox warranty along with a new MOT and 6 months tax, what would you do?? Its the Astra + £1500 so is not a bank breaker but dont fancy buying a pup This is the car http://www.cavectracentre.co.uk/cardetails.php?fullreg=T156SPB
Jay_vr6
all my cars do this, mayo, I only drive 3 miles to work and then back again. just condensation as the engine isn't getting a good enough use. have you checked if the particular merc engine has any issues on the net ? Jamesy W
there is no visable rust on the panels, have not been under the car at all yet The arches are rather bad for it in these and the W208's. Nice cars all the same.
movistar
merc's to have a tendency to blow rads internally and you get a mix from the gearbox oil into the coolant as the gearbox cooler is in the rad. Head Gaskets on the v8's a common too....does sound though like you have a spot of emulsification within the breather system...this is common from a car being left standing and condensation is the culprit. Just needs a good run and then an oil change if the build up is not too bad. Have you tried looking through the merc forums on the web? lots of info there. good luck! garethr
Is the car from the period when E-Class Mercs rusted like f**k? There is no visible rust on the panels, have not been under the car at all yet. IIRC the worst bits are the front spring seat and front subframe. There may be more. Well worth checking the MB forums.
