Holden1989
We've always been interested to know this aswell, its more like a handle that twists then releases the roof i think, be good if they actually existed, but how strong they would be i dont know
RED_ROCKET
I think the roof would be taken off far more if this could be done, just for being so much simpler!... have to do some research i think:d

alaing
This actually Happend to my Aerotop roof when the place i got mine from deliverd it on a truck and didnt bolt the roof down properly! They lost it on the M11 never to be seen again!?
AndrewOW
You have 5 bolts in the roof, and the centre one is really for locking the roof on if you've parked up and don't want to do them all up each time (as its in the centre). I think they adapted the centre one with a glue of sorts, so when he bashed it, it let go and flew off. If all of the bolts are tight, then there's no way it'll just fly off by accident. Mine rattles a bit if one or two of the bolts is loose, but they are soon tightened again if need be.
RED_ROCKET
i would def buy one if they were available not exactly sure how one central lever/knob would hold roof in place guess some sort of pin system ?
alaing
I never really understood why the aerotop roof is attacted the way it is, especially after owning an mr2 t-bar where the roof is really easy to take off.
supragold
I don't have an aero so don't know how it works but is this latch normal? http://www.performance-trim.com/images/toyota_supra_targaroof_03_large.jpg http://www.performance-trim.com/images/toyota_supra_targaroof_04_large.jpg

dude
I think the yanks refer to it as a 'shopping latch' its to just hold the roof on while the car is parked, many have been lost through driving like that and they can go a lot more than 15 ft in the air. JamesC
How does the roof come off in a aerotop? I've never been in one.
alaing
It has 2 allen bolts to the back and 2 at the front under the sun visors then the latch in the middle. These all have to be undone with a special rachet tool. Then once all the bolts are undone it just stows away in the boot

It will start raining by the time you get it off over here
RED_ROCKET
cant find any info on mods to the aero roof anyone else had a search about
Holden1989
cant find any info on mods to the aero roof anyone else had a search about most iv seen is the carbon roofs, tbh iv heard a few people comment on the flexibility of the upper part of the car, and have even seen the windscreen flex themselves, so i dont think i would trust just one bolt/connection as much as i would like to of course
alaing
Yeh god only knows why Toyota didnt make it more like the mr2 roof?!
hadyn
I never really understood why the aerotop roof is attacted the way it is, especially after owning an mr2 t-bar where the roof is really easy to take off. Perhaps for structual rigidity?
alaing
Maybe but i dont see a problem with it on my mr2?
RED_ROCKET
no a single lock would not work i was thinking that turning a central lever/knob would maybe using cams drive pins into the four locations i guess such a roof might end up quiet heavy oh well can but dream
