SupraStar 3000
Looking to buy a car to commute to work and run about in as I'm fed up of the worrying about the Soop in town during the day. Been looking today on the usual sites and choice is overwhelming. Have no real loyalty towards any makes or model so open to ideas from you guys. Reviews are all very well but I want to hear some real thoughts from you! Needs to be practical (4 seats) and easy to service, solid and not to boring to drive. Anyone got any recommendations? 4 door 1.8 / 2lt £4000 mark. Reliable Cheap to insure / service etc. Fun Always fancied a Alfa Romeo Spider but open to suggestions ,.... or maybe a MR2
lexsum
never seen a 4 door mr2 (or 4 seats)
Ian W
Always fancied a Alfa Romeo Spider but open to suggestions ,.... or maybe a MR2 They're not 4 doors? In all seriousness, what about an Accord Type R? If the 4 doors aren't to important, what about an Integra Type R? I may be biased but they handle brilliantly, have a huge boot and I generally get 35mpg out of mine? Also, in nearly two years all I've done is oil changes and the timing belt. Kopite
Golf GTi etc? Not the funnest but i wouldn't mind one as a daily drive, Mondeo ST220s down to £4k yet? I'm being boring though, get a Firebird
SteamAhead
Couple of years ago I had to sell my Supra for the above reason and ended up getting an Audi A2. I won't lie and say it's been the perfect car I've had, as there have been a couple of problems. 1: I bought one with the Open sky sunroof (that's now broken and will cost a small fortune to repair) 2: The computer died on me, but managed to get a replacement for half the Audi price (£150, thanks to the Audi A2 Club members) + points really do outway those problems. I have the 1.4 Petrol and I'm amazed how nippy it is (then again the whole car is made of aluminium, so pretty light) and don't forget I've gone from a 3ltr Supra down to a 1.4. The boot is deeper than you first think due to a section that comes out + when the seats are removed this is a very big car inside due to the very low rear floorpan. Style wise I do like it, comes across with a little air of quality over the other mini mpv's out there (but that's my opinion For the 1.4 I'm paying £120 car tax, and petrol is pretty cheap filling up with £25 and lasting a good few 100 miles (never worked it out sorry) The 1.4td is only £35 a year tax. For me the car has paid for it's self on a cheap practical side. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audi_A2 Hope that helps P.s These can now be had for about the price you're wanting to pay. SupraStar 3000
Some good suggestions guys thanks, especially the Honda Type Rs and A2. I look into those tomorrow. mrsupra, perfect reply. Thank you and appreciated. Humm,... Quite like the idea of a supermini. Would make parking in town much easier.
Benjy
My mrs has got a Golf GT TDi. £56 to fill it to the brim and about 450 miles to empty it again. And that's with me driving it thinking i'm in a Supra and trying to get power out of it! It's relatively nippy though, She's got the PD130 engine, on the rollers it put out 132.4bhp and 220ft/lb torque. AND you can fit a Supra nose cone in there AND 4 x 20" alloys!!!! Tom S
Ed I'm currently driving a Passat SE TDi (140 Brake) can be modded to 175 I've been told. (so like an NA ) Great cars and return 50-60 MPG. Big boot for dead bodies etc...... hope to see you at Pod !!
danhicks22
I got a high mileage 2004 Leon Cupra TDi recently. Looks great, a lot of fun to drive, can get 53mpg on a long journey if I work hard (43-48 if I'm not being careful) and it's got 150bhp so 0-60 in 8.6s and shed loads of torque. Not sure I'd go back to a petrol run around now. Ryan G can remap them to about 180bhp for a very reasonable price too
