StuartW
Just building up the shortblock, The Wiseco sport compact pistons (Or any Aftermarket 2JZ piston) does not have the channel in the piston crown for oil cooling like the OEM pistons. SO is it worth leaving the under piston crown oil squirters in? I guess they will help cool the underside of the piston crown even on the wiseco's? The OEM pistons have a cut out in the piston skirt to accomodate the squirters but it seems the Wiseco skirt is at its longest, is shorter than the OEM piston, So they should clear the squirters no problem? Can anyone confirm this please and discuss the comments i have made. Another thought is i could re-angle the squirters to gain better cooling. At present they are desinged to lign up with the OEM piston hole @ BDC, i think there is enough room to angle them slightly more towards the centre of the piston..any thoughts..Chris Wilson..Terminator. paul mac
i have never heard of anyone leaving off oil squirters and as for modding/changing the angle i would step away from the squirters right now and leave just how Mr T created them, you could end up in a world of hurt
Lee P
In the US alot of the drag cars run NA blocks as they dont have oil squirters and it helps the with oil pressue in the bottom end. I would still leave them as they are though.
StuartW
Thanks for your comments but there must have been more R&D on these in the past
JamieP
The skirt on the Wiseco is not as low as the OEM so id of thought it would not need a cutout?
Lee P
If your building the car as a drag car and its not going to be used on the road, weld up the holes for the squirters and leave them out. If it will be used on the road or for any long pulls (top speed runs etc) then leave them in as they will help cool the pistons. There is also something you can coat the bottom of the piston in to stop the oil sticking which also helps cooling. No aftermarket piston will have the channel for the squirtes Have a look on supraforums as there is a lot of info there regarding them. StuartW
I Plan to have it as a serious drag car AND a semi usable road car Although i will not be running anything like the boost i would on the Strip, whilst on the road, Also i am running lots of failsafe electronics and coolers etc etc ... Can anyone do a link to supraforums?....as whenever i go on there i spend 5 frickin hours reading and go on some mission to mars and then divert past jupiter..with the odd supra on the way

I like the semi usable road car idea, can just see you driving down the high street in it. Will turn some heads

Chris Wilson
the correct part number Wiseco pistons for a 2JZ-GTE engine have no issues clearing the squirters. Although these pistons have no galleries they clear the squirter jets, and one has to assume the oil jets help somewhat in taking heat from the crown area. Thanks for confirming that Chris, Do you see my point on re adjusting the oil jet nozzle to allow better cooling, At present they direct onto one quarter of the underside of the crown, If they where pointing more towards the center of the crown surely they would be more effective? Chris Wilson
Something averaging 4000 plus RPM will spread the oil about no problem Don't worry about it
Terminator
I had to strip a 2JZGTE drag engine, said to produce 900bhp, it had non standard pistons and original Toyota squirters. I would stay with the squirters, they are good enough for Toyota. Anything that will helps cool the pistons and lubricate the cylinders is a good thing. I would even go as far as fitting new ones so you can be sure, they are not gummed up.
garethr
...At present they direct onto one quarter of the underside of the crown......Are they directed towards the exhaust side?
StuartW
Are they directed towards the exhaust side? Yes the hotter side, Thanks for all the replies guys..Going to put it together armed with the knowledge now gained/Discussed
